Argument No.045
The following appeared as an editorial in a wildlife journal.
"Arctic deer live on islands in Canada's arctic region. They search for food by moving over ice from island to island during the course of a year. Their habitat is limited to areas warm enough to sustain the plants on which they feed, and cold enough, at least some of the year, for the ice to cover the sea separating the islands, allowing the deer to travel over it. Unfortunately, according to reports from local hunters, the deer populations are declining. Since these reports coincide with recent global warming trends that have caused the sea ice to melt, we can conclude that the decline in arctic deer populations is the result of deer being unable to follow their age-old migration patterns across the frozen sea."

The editorial claims that the populations of the arctic deer will decrease. To convince us the editorial cite that the ice to cover the sea separating the islands where arctic deer find their food will melt due to the global warming trends. However, careful examination of this supporting evidence reveal that it lends little credible support to the president' claim.

First,
there are not adequate evidence to support that the global warming trends will firmly cause the disappear of ice between the two islands. The global warming may result in the rise of temperature however the change is too small to melt the ice. Besides, it is entirely possible that the ice bridge is thick enough to resist the change of weather conditions.Without elimination this possibility, the owner cannot
rely on the hypothesis to conclude that the ice will melt and the deer will discard their age-old migration patterns.

Second, the editorial should show more information about the decline in arctic deer. The reports front local hunters give little about the number of the arctic deer. What is the statistic data on the deer before and how many there are now ? Without historical data, the owenr's assertion that the population of the arctic deer decrees cannot be taken seriously.

Finally, even if the ice disappear and the deer cannot obtain their food from the nearby islands, where they used to go, we cannot assure that the deer will decline because of absence of food. Maybe, there are much more food for the arctic deer because the change of the weather condition. To justify the conclusion that the island nearby is the unique place where the deer search their food is hard for the owner. If the deer could find their food from other islands which connect with the land they live, the population of the deer will not decrease, even if the ice bridge never appears again. since the owner has failed to consider and rule out these possibilities, the owner's assertion is unconvincing.

In sum, though the argument seems to be plausible, in fact, it is neither sound nor persuasive. Not only does it leave out such key issues, but also cites in the analysis the evidence, which does not lend strong support to what arguer's concede that the deer will decline. If the august includes the given factors discussed above, it would have been more thorough and adequate.

First,
there are not adequate evidence to support that the global warming trends will firmly cause the disappear of ice between the two islands.看得出这个是TS,但是我觉得可以表述得更加清楚一点的说哦。
The global warming may result in the rise of temperature however the change is too small to melt the ice. Besides, it is entirely possible that the ice bridge is thick enough to resist the change of weather conditions.Without elimination this possibility, the owner 为什么是ownercannot
rely on the hypothesis to conclude that the ice will melt and the deer will discard their age-old migration patterns感觉表述不够地道哦.

What is the statistic data on the deer before and how many there are now ? Without historical data, the owenr's assertion that the population of the arctic deer decrees cannot be taken seriously.个人觉得,问题不在于与历史的比较,而在于猎人的感觉是不是有科学性上

Maybe, there are much more food for the arctic deer because the change of the weather condition. To justify the conclusion that the island nearby is the unique place where the deer search their food is hard for the owner.这句话的语法结构我看的不是很明白 If the deer could find their food from other islands which connect with the land they live, the population of the deer will not decrease, even if the ice bridge never appears again. since the owner has failed to consider and rule out these possibilities, the owner's assertion is unconvincing.这句话还是不错的

In sum, though the argument seems to be plausible, in fact, it is neither sound nor persuasive.依旧是不够地道的问题Not only does it leave out such key issues, but also cites in the analysis the evidence, which does not lend strong support to what arguer's concede that the deer will decline.
