103：The study of history has value only to the extent that it is relevant to our daily lives.

After a careful consideration, I generally cannot be in agreement with the statement above. Famous philosopher Fransis Bacon once said: “History makes men wise.” The issue, although partly true, is too limited. The study of history not only has value to our daily lives, also it will benefit other circumstances, such as science, economy, culture and the like. Generally speaking, in my opinion, the study of history is an indespensible and awarding way for humans to fulfill social civilizaton.

Firstly, the study of history has value to science development. Nowadays, the science is developing at an unprecedented speed. The daily mature technology has allowed more products that will make our lives easier and more convinient to be inventened and enter our lives much faster than before. All of these accomplishmemts are attributed to the study of science. Scientists must carry out a meticulous investigation from the past history about the science and technology development, their practical utilization in order to aquire inspiration via comparison, thence precipitate the creation and prosperity of modern science and their products. Many great discoveries and inventions are based on the great people’s study of history, by absorbing useful information from it. A case in point is famous scientist Albert Einstein. For the discovery of the theory (or principle) of relativity, he went through a painstaking research process. Based on the outcome of experiments, he throughly refered to the past history of physics theories and discoverties, which created a steady foundation, eventually gave birth to the relativity theory. History are fraught with similar examples. However they all inevitably lead to one point: the study of history can be profoundly beneficial to the science development.

Secondly, the study of history has value to economy development. As we know, economy is related to the destiny of the whole nation. It can be even concluded as the basis of all other undertakings in the society, without which the road to ultimate civilization might be compromised. Therefore, to ensure the development and the prosperity of this foundation, economists must do careful research on current economical situations, while at the same time combining past experiences of success and failure. Take the economy crisis which took place in Asia in 1997, it is so destructive that including Indonesia, South Korea and Thailand, many countries’ economy were severly influenced. Due to the fully preparation, which are taken and learned from the past experiences of economy crisis, Chinese government took actions, successfully stablizing the economy fluctuation by using marco control. This case indicates that by the study of history, people can get information from the past experiences and to a large extent utilize and make them suitable for today's economy development.

Last but not least, the study of history has value to cultural development. A holistic civilization cannot be fulfilled without culture. Judging the cultural elements that we have at present, we can easily come to the conclusion that all the cultures that human possess currently are, of no exception, the legacies of history. No matter music, art, literature or places of interest, they are all crystals of human wisdom that have been passed from one generation, to another. Therefore, by studying the history of culture, we can fully comprehend its provenance, development, influence on the following generation, and extract experiences and learn lessons from it so as to better serve the development of today’s cultural development. Good examples for this analysis can be found many in history, all the great literary works have been created on the foundation of experiences from pioneering literatis. So are other forms of cultures. Thus, we can easily come to the conclusion that the study of history has profound value to cultural development.

Admittely, the study of history does have value to our daily lives. Same as the three aspects that I have already analyzed, we can aquire necessary and awarding experiences by referring to history on account of the prodigious information it purveys for us. However, there is not as much as we can conclude comparing with the other three aspects due to the fact that our daily lives are not so complicated. To our common understanding, people’s daily lives are consiste of the indespensible elements which enable us to subsist, such as education, work, health, mariage and the like, those of which are trvial in comparison with the more important values for civilization development.

To sum up, from the analysisi above, it is not difficult to understand the value of studying history. Indeed, the study of history has value to our daily lives. Nevertheless, more importantly, by studying history, we can extract useful information and experiences whereas discard bad detritus from the conducts of our forefathers, the purpose of which is to contribute better to the development and progress toward the path of fufilling civilization.
