A nation should require all its students to study the same national curriculum until they entercollege rather than allow schools in different parts of the nation to determine which academic courses to offer.

Nowadays we live in a multi-culture world, which covers allthe knowledge of human being’s elites. No one could cover all the disciplinesof all the knowledge in one’s life. Consequently, someone may conclude that,since an individual will finally be assigned to the specific profession, theearliest he focuses on some specific academic courses, the better he willaccustomed to the job which he will do in the future. However, from my point ofview, I believe that it is better to maintain all the nation’s students tostudy the same national curriculum until they enter college.


A general curriculum implemented by the government ratherthan the local schools avoids the narrowness and inequity of the knowledge andregretful for that if these problems grow up. If schools were allowed to opencourses as they like to bring about the student from their childhood, oureducational system would not have a standard and effective education criterion.Meanwhile, whether the classes opened by the schools themselves have thepositive effect on the students are largely depends on the faculty or staff’ssubjectively narrow view or maybe from influence by the local custom, cultureand even the will of sponsors. The uniformed curriculums designed by thegovernment could balance the gap of different area of the country and evencould have a much broader educational view for the students and make a solidfoundation for the students to further their study in the college in thefuture.


On the other hand, if the schools grant its students therights to choose the subjects they like before they enter into the college,which maybe regarded as freedom study as said, they may not achieve theeducational goals as the school expects. Students before their college studiesare so young to decide their favorite subjects to study. When they are grantedthe freedom of choosing subjects, they may abuse the privilege to study theirown interesting things which may not have positive effect on their followingstudies. What’s more, some may neglect the foundation exercise of study intheir youths.


Though it is irresponsible to grant every school the powerto design its own courses to offer, it is beneficial to give them freedom tooffer some un-compulsory courses for students to choose from, which could addtheir motivation of study. This in turn could stimulate the positive effect ofthe students and make study as the funny things at the same time.


In sum, everyone have the privilege to choose what theyprefer to study, however, we just need an authority to set up effective andsound curriculum for students before they have the ability to decide which issuitable to learn.
