这篇写的不好，想法是说真正缺乏选择的状况很少，大多数情况都是由于我们之前不够努力没有好好把握住机会造成的，但是写不清楚这个意思，求高手指教~~

We are living in an age facing too many choices that sometimes even getting confused about to how to choose. In contrast, we still continuously hear some people complaining about the absence of choice, which is another extreme circumstance. However, in my observation, most of those who complain about lacking choices are actually not seizing the chances. The real absence of choice is very rare occasions, as the speaker claims.

To begin with, it is useful to define what the "absence of choice" means. Some may define it as inability to change under certain situation, like we cannot choose tomorrow’s weather, or we cannot choose what kind of family we are born in, or we cannot choose when we will die. Those are actually out of the range of human controlling. When facing those issues, we do have no choice but only have to accept. Some others may argue that when facing many choices, they have to choose a certain one for various involuntary reasons. They say they are not happy with the choice but must take that one. They call it "absence of choice". However, it seems to me that those involuntary reasons are only excuses they find to escape from they own failures. They cannot have other choices due to their inability to seize chances.

In the former case, I admit that the absence of choice does exist. There are many things in the world we cannot change or make choices. For example, when our relatives are suffering from incurable disease, we cannot choose to give panaceas or other alternative methods to mitigate their pains. Or when an area is suddenly attacked by some natural disasters, like the recent earthquake happened in Haiti, we have no choice to stop the disaster from happening. Since the power of human is quite limited, compared to the nature, many things happen out of our reach. Facing such phenomena, we in deed have no choice to make it go as we wish.

In the latter cases, however, we should not attribute our dissatisfying decisions to the absence of choice. Actually we once had many choices but we just did not make full use of them. For example, if someone was born in a poor family, which is not what he or she can choose, it does not mean that there is no chance to get rid of poverty and live a richer life. When they think their poor family cannot offer them choice to become rich, they just simply seeking excuses for not trying best to seize every chance to learn and to work. Or those who failed to enter college would attribute the reason to their less inborn intelligence than their peers. In deed, scientific research has already proved that the difference between the common brains is so small that can be ignored. They just use the excuse "the absence of choice" because of such low intelligence to make themselves feel less guilty for the fact that they did not study hard in the past. In short, the most people who complain for the absence of choice are actually failed for their absence of dedication for what they want. They are reluctant to work hard therefore let the chances go too easily.

In conclusion, the real absence of choice is a circumstance that is very, very rare. Those circumstances are due to human's limited ability to change the nature. But other those unchangeable situations, it is often because we did not do well enough in the past to seize the choices we could have. Thus the called "absence of choice" is not true one, but only the bitter fruits from our less satisfying performances.
