TOPIC: ISSUE56 - "Governments should focus more on solving the immediate problems of today rather than trying to solve the anticipated problems of the future."

Since our society is changing days and night, the governments should put more energy and source to what is bothering now than to worry about the potential problems which are possibly not be problematic in the future.

Although what we do today will lead a sequential effect in the future, there still would be many unpredictable changes. Like the serious drought happening in Yunnan Province of China now. Yunnan is always known as raininess, and lots of protective methods are taken for avoiding flood disaster. For such sudden abnormity of weather, none of the programs can be helpful. And what should be focused now, is definitely how to help the people there to survive this disaster prior to any other protective action. In the other aspect, sometimes surprises happen. There was an unfair problem in China that people like sons more than daughters, therefore baby girls may be abandoned illegally in some countries. The officials made strict policies to protect female baby all the year past. However, as in Chinese tradition, parents have to buy a house for their son when he gets married, while not for their daughter getting married, and the price of house is getting higher and higher in China, most parents could not afford such tradition. Thus, more and more people start to think daughter is lighter burden and admit their favor of the intimate relationship between daughter and parents. And surprisingly, the discrimination to girls is suppressed a lot. In some cities like Shanghai, which has the top-3-high price of houses, girls are more expected than boy in a family. The unpredicted situation, in some extent, solves the problem pretty well.

And the society we are talking about is a huge and sophisticated system, and tends to be huger and more complicated. In such system, changes in one field will, in some extent, reflect in another or many other area. Take the impressive economical crisis this time as evidence: at first, it was a financial ruin in housing loan in the USA; however, since the great portion of the money has been lost belongs to real estate, causing the extra crisis in real estate field: companies were broken, and factories were closed. And what’s more, when lots of people lost their jobs, it became a social issue from just a financial problem. So, even if you made many efforts and did a lot of research to prevent a very problem, for example, the government tried to increase the job placement in your city knowing there’s much more graduates this year, there’s no research can study all the possible aspects potentially affect the result. It’s too many facts to consider for a prevented action for future problem.

Of course, it is great to avoid a possible trouble by today's effort. But considering the limit of recourses we share, it is more important to ensure most effectiveness of we spent. In other words, it has to be economical. Imagine if Obama's four-thousand-billion project last year was proposed for bettering welfare of retirees, would it be proved? I strongly doubt it. As it is commonly agreed that emergency goes first, immediate problem can get more concentration because it is causing lost every second until it was ceased.

In conclusion, a government caring about the future of course should make plans and preparation for any possible problem next, but it is more vital for it to make effort to solve the current issues rapidly and effectively, because future can not be controlled, while nowadays can not wait.
