It is the seldom-reported social transformation that have greater influence compared with the headline-making political events. When someone asserts that conclusion there must be amounts of people showing their disagreement and some of them would even list many well-known political events trying to persuade the speaker that how significant the events are. Nonetheless, I stand firmly on the side of the speaker that it is the seldom-reported social transformation have the most lasting significance, not the headline-making political events.

Before discussing which have more significance, it’s necessary for us to have a deep understanding of the seldom-reported social transformation which is the basis of the discussion. Compared with the headline-making political events, which are the focus of the populace’s attention and the headlines of most newspapers, the seldom-reported social transformation are the transformation that ignored by most people and attained little emphasis by the newspaper’s editors for the reason that they are the transformation mentally and thus difficult to be aware. Since there are piles of articles concerning our social changes in the aspects of living or the regulation and so on but little will be documented neither on the newspapers or magazines about the alternations of people’s mind, the seldom-reported transformation here is mainly defined as the transformation in mind.

I concede that the headline-making political events are significant and sometimes they even have the power to dominate our life like the triumph of Obama in the game of election which is the landmark for American in its way to wipe out the racial discrimination and the water gate scandal

which reveal the darkness of the politics to the American normal citizens. However ,these events are just the reflection of the seldom-reported transformation ,the actual impetus of the society. Without the urgent thirst for acquiring the right to know the fact in the government, there would be no one willing to risk reporting the water gate scandal, and when the Nixon and his assistants were cheering for their temporary victory in disguising the scandal ,no one would send anonymous letters to the court to reveal the low-down of the water gate scandal without the waken up of the citizen’s obligation .And let us see Obama, the first black president in the history of America, it is his supporter which are consisted of black yellow and white that give him the chance to be the president. It is impossible for a colored people competing for this position 50 years before when the ideology of racial discrimination in the white that they are the superior race have not inverted. Of course ,such transformation is slow and hardly appeared on the newspaper reported as “our white people become a little more friendly to colored people!” Thus ,it is the seldom-reported transformation that impels the headline-making political events actually.

The seldom-reported social transformation virtually are the shifts of our mind . They are destined to have the lasting significance for that it is the people’s thoughts, though changing casually and slowly like the brook, that lead to the final decision when the brook of thoughts flowed to be a river. Take the abortion as a great example to illustrate the power of the seldom-reported social transformation. In the Roman time ,not only the abortion is legal, even the killing of infants is considered lawful. However ,as the development of the society ,the understanding of life in people’s mind had been changed. Some people began to aware that the infant which has not been born is still a life that deserves the right for live and thus the debate on whether abortion parallels murder became hot. The debate has been lasting for decades and the law about abortion has been modified for several times, but it has been unsettled and even more controversial nowadays. From the above sample ,we can see how the magnificent affects the ideology’s switch bringing about and the seldom-reported social transformation are nothing but that.


In my statement ,the seldom-reported social transformation have the most lasting significance and the headline-making political events are the reflection of them.
