As the article indicated, doctors are suggested to give vigorous exercise rather than modrate exercise to improve the physical condition ,which will promote longevity. But it is serious flawed in its statements and reasoning.
Common sense as it is, one would not benefit from his physical activities if he is in bad condition like bone fructure and some chronic disease. The writer mixed all the situations as a single example, and in order to solve it, only one conclusion is made that all ones who want to live longer should exercise harder, which is unconvincing for the ones, for example, those who are suffering heart disease that serious exercise may lead to serious results , neither fatigue nor a fatal heart beat. But even if the writer varied the situations and give approprate solutions, the article may still have some vital weakness.
Though the writer corrected the improper solution, the article still insuffcient to provide some reasonable evidence that the lack of longevity of the mild exercisers are ascribed to exercise they take. It is known to all that, longevity is a combination of a series of factors, such as healthy diet, balanced nutritions intake, enough sleep, and approprate - not vigorous - exercise. Long life may be a consiquence of the one who are enthusiast to follow the healthy living style, not the one who is only working hard in exercise to make himself strong but eat large quantities of junk food. It is a pity that the fat and cholestrol he had taken in might dilute - or even mar the effect his exercise had done. The requirement of exercise is ONE of the factors but it can't be the WHOLE.
In spite of the weak evidence, the article is still doubtable in its reasoning. Based on a survey of middle aged men could make the conclusion that all the patients should receive a prescription of vigorous exercise. What's worse, whether the survey is reliable is suspecious. Without considering about various race, age, religion, educational condition, social factors, income, and health insurance, the survey can be reprecentative to nothing but "middle-aged men in some parts of the country", not everyone. That is to say, thinking about its reliability is limited, doctors should be cautious to distribute the prescription to every single patient.
In summary, only if the writer be consciencious to the basis of re-reasoning the essential parts of the article such as the variations of treatment while considering the conditions of the patients, the suffeciency of the factors contributing to longevity, the reliablity of the survey, the article may be convincing to doctors and really have some practial effects to improve peaple's living experience.
