Were the most significant events and trends in history made possible by groups whose identities have long been forgotten rather than by the famous few? The speaker think this is the case, while I concede that the groups play an important role in the history, however, the impact of famous individuals on history shouldn't be overlooked. Furthermore, the study of history should places emphasis on individuals, and groups of people equally.
Groups of people are crucial for the development of the history. Groups of people are representative of the overall people in the society, so their behaviors and actions will reflect the main trend in the history. Any revolution is needed for the wide participation of those who will make a contribution to the history. For example, if there are not large amounts of people joining the army and fight against the country that invade the one of their own, their own country will lose the liberty. At the same time, many heroes died in the battle and their influence should be record in the history forever. Another good example to illustrate is that unless the several generations of people in Egypt together try their best to transport and move the huge rocks, the pyramid will not be constructed successfully therefore famous in the world now. So it's hard to imagine that significant events and trends in history are only influenced by some ordinary individuals.
However, I can't agree with the speaker's assertion that the most significant events and trends were made possible not by the famous few. The famous few really improve the development of the society. For example, in the field of science, the invention of electromotor by Faraday directly brings the society to the times of electron. When it comes to the politics, LICON, the president of America, made a quick decision to join in the war of 2, and make a contribution to the success. We can conclude that the famous few change the people's history.
I admit the history has placed too much emphasis on individuals. This is because the information about the groups of people is generally not available in most cases, and there may exist a possibility that the history can't contain the comprehensive information about the groups. Even the groups of people are recorded in history, it's hard for the following people to remember them as a result of its a bit too much information. In addition, an individual sometimes was the sign of the particular time such as decades or longer years, which makes it easier for people to relate the history.
Admittedly, individuals appear more often to the readers' eyes in history books. Yet undue overstatement of the importance of the famous few brings about negative influences. It may cause the children to form the value of adoring single hero, at the same time impresses them a illusion that impact of groups is less than that of a famous person.
In sum, the study of history should pay attention to both the groups of people and the famous few. it's nevertheless appropriate to separate them, they altogether create the significant events and speed up the development of the whole world. |
