42.Because learning is not a solitary activity but one that requires collaboration among people, students of all ages will benefit academically if they work frequently in groups.

There has been much debate over whether learning is a solitary or collective activity in the history and it seemed that the former opinion was somewhat prevalent for long. However, the fresh conception of learning in the new century, in sharp contrast with what it was traditionally regarded, is so far by no means a solitary one as usual. Moreover, it demands more and more collaboration on learners especially us students today. As far as I am concerned, it will certainly be more efficient and beneficial for us to work in groups than to be cramming in academics.

In the first place, no one would deny the fact that more and more new knowledge has been accumulated with the development of the modern society, which makes it impossible for any book to cover all the latest progress in its specified realm, thus making the way of learning as was initially regarded merely a kind of process that depends mainly on reading books in the library alone already out-of-date today. Admittedly, almost all the knowledge that students have to study in primary and high schools or even at colleges has already been printed and published in the textbooks for at least several years or even more. However, it does not mean that they could have achieved great success in study had they taken a solitary attitude towards learning. Lacking of communications with their classmates and instructions from teachers, the students separately studying by themselves alone would easily go astray or, to some extent, risk going extreme. Even though some of them, if there had any, might have so much inspiration that they can adjust themselves automatically, the effort they spend on learning is far more than enough that others, consisting mostly of ordinary ones of average IQ, do with the collective attitude.

Furthermore, in addition to what has been listed above, students of all grades and levels will benefit a lot from 'team-work' in academics. As they are doing the studies together in groups, they will have the privilege to ask other members of the group for help when they come across any difficulties. Then a heated debate might be aroused in them, which could not only help to solve the problems, but also built up the logical reasoning ability they need in their future work. At the same time, through communications, they come to know the ideas and opinions of others which will undoubtedly extend their scopes in academics, as well as share with them what they have thought. With collaboration among students, all these benefits will come true if only they are studying in groups. In fact, such collaboration and communications among them also, to some degree, seem a special kind of learning that anyone with the solitary attitude towards learning could never experience when studying alone. Besides, the competitions and cooperations among all the members of a team are also welcome in their growth.

Last but not the least, though students are encouraged to learn cooperatively, anyone could never use this as an excuse of relying on others always instead of thinking independently themselves. Faced with the rapid developing world today, people are in great need of a virtue of independent thinking to deal with all problems they encountered, even those they have never met before. From cooperation in study, one will learn to foster such a spirit little by little since childhood while arguing with each other in group study. On the contrary, however, depending on others in study, as a pseudo exhibition of cooperation, will eventually result in loss of momentum in progress.

In sum, from what has been discussed above, we may finally reach the conclusion that learning is no more a solitary activity, but it needs collaboration instead. However, we should also take the problem seriously into consideration to avoid another extreme of absolutely relying on others at the risk of achieving little in the days to come.
