Accompany with the development of the society, people emphasize the education more and more. To improve the quality of instruction at the college and university, lots of people may provide some suggestions and the author asserts that all faculty should be required to spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach. Further reflection reveals that the opinion partly correct while it suffers some flaws, my point is that faculty spend time working outside the academic world has insofar helpful to advance the quality of instruction at the college and university level. Nevertheless, we should not require all the faculty to work outside.
Firstly and basically, It is helpful to improve the quality about some subjects that require the teachers to spend time working outside. The practice of the teacher can help them understand the knowledge profoundly and improve the level of their teaching. So that they can teach the student better and the students will get more information about the development and employment of their major, they will become more interesting in studying the subject. Furthermore they will know what they should learn and emphasize, in this way they study more effectively.
Nevertheless, It is not profitable for all subjects and all faculty, because of it is not necessary. At first, for some teachers, their energy is finite and they just spend time teaching is try their best, if required to spend time working outside, they will be very tired and diminish the quality of their teaching. For the students, in case that they become excessively accentuate the importance of practice, they will maybe neglect the significance of the fundamental knowledge. For some majors if the employment is not well, the students will extraordinarily worry the job about that they will find. It will diffuse the attention of the students and take a bad effect to the student to study.
Additionally, some subjects are not necessary to build a revelation with the practice, and the teacher should not be required to work outside. For example, literature, quantum physics, language studies, mathematics and so on, for these subject, it is difficulty to find the practice outside. Hence it is not feasible to find practice outside for the faculty at some subjects.
Finally, there are other reasonable methods to improve the quality of the teaching, Such as establish some legitimate institution to supervise and require the students to study, enhance the threshold about the entrance of the students, enhance the quality of teachers by giving them training, open some special talking and lecture about the major, organize students to visit the factory link with the major, all these measures can improve the quality of instruction at the college and university level. Hence, we should not confine the way to require the teacher to spend time working outside to advance the education's level.
To sum up, when we make a proposition we should estimate it comprehensively and across the broad especially when it is relation with the hope and require of the public and nation. Based the analysis made above, my conclusion is that for some subjects and some teachers it is useful to improve the quality of teaching that require faculty to spend time working outside, nonetheless, it is not suitable for all the faculty and all subjects. For more effectively improving the quality of our education, the college and university should seek a balance between accentuating the practice and emphasizing the fundamental knowledge. |
