题目:The human mind will always be superior to machines because machines are only tools of human minds.
The speaker states that the human mind will be better than machines all the time--whether in the past or in the future since machines are considered as tools of human minds. From my point of view, I strongly agree with that machines are only the toolsàproducts and tools of human minds, but for the issues that the human mind will always be better than machines for machines are the tools of human minds , I do not agree with that entirely.
First of all, machines indeed play an increasingly important and even indispensibleàirreplaceable role during the periodàin the process of human beings’ development. The appearing of machines, from the sticks used to hunt or fish in the ancient time to the steam engines widely used in the factories in the industrial revolution and to the computers in the modern time ,pushes the society to advance and meanwhile brings human beings all aspects of convenience. For example, at the living level, the inventions of vehicles such as automobiles, train and airplane meets people’s need of travelling and greatly saves the time-consuming in journey; in the industry level, huge machines accomplish the task of carrying ponderous goods which should be done by human beings, thereby reducing the burdens of people; and in medical level, micro-machines can go inside the human body, as a result, identifying the healthy problems and performing delicate surgery, which could not be done early in the micro-machines. Hence, machines, as a production of the technology, generate postive effects to human beings.
On the contrary, although machines are invented by human beings and they, as tools of human beings, do help people achieve many achievements and even in some aspects they are over the human, they are still in control of human beings. The invention of the computer is the case in point. Experts, particularly the electric, mathematic experts and otherwise engineers invented it, which is widely used in all aspects today, including everyday life, economic field, academic field and so forth. And the ability of running quite complicate calculation in a very short time, one of the greatest advantages of computer, is what human being can not do ,thus helping people, to some extent, save much time and improve the work efficiency. However, this is a
fact which can not disputed that only operated by people can they finish tasks because the computer can only executive commands.
In addition, machines are different from human beings: people have the capacity for independence thought, for making judgments based on normative considerations, or for developing emotional responses to intellectual problems, but which is what the computer does have. In turn, what the computer can do is to conformityàobey the order, not considering the result after executiving the order which may be beneficial, or perhaps harmful and even dreadful. Take the computer virus as an example. In order to get others’ prosperity or stealàfilching important information from a nation or something, people madeàcreated virus, having special function, to transmit among computers and plant in them, thus leading to the loss of people’s enormous prosperity. If the computer can think independently, if the computer can tell whether it is good or bad and if the computer can figure out the result of the behavior, many things is avoidable. But the fact is opposite. So although machines are in control of human being, the result is out of control of the people’s hands.
In sum, I concede that machines are only tools of human beings, helping people finish numerous tasks, changing people’s life style, instructing people into a new world and in the end promoting the development of society. However, it can never be superior to human minds even if it is better than human beings in certain aspects because of inability of thinking independently, judging subjectively and responding emotionally. |
