Whether socialization of children defines character and destiny of society? Have we learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society? While answering the first question affirmative, the speaker provides a negative answer to the second one. From my personal perspective, I fundamentally agree with the speaker's view toward the first question. On the other hand, to some extent, I do not agree with the speaker’s allegation that we can not cultivate our descendant to create better society. These following reasons will illustrate my view expressly.


To begin with, consider the definition of socialization of children. The term socialization refers to the process of learning one's culture and how to live within it. As Clinton claims in 1997: the victory belongs to those people who can live together, learn together, work together, forge new ties that bind together. Accordingly, through socialization, children will learn the skill of communication, sense of cooperation, and mind of competition. All of them, to a certain extent, help to stimulate the development of our society. What's more, during the children's socialization, parents, teachers, or any adults are serving indispensible roles. According to the study published by J.R. Skinner, socialization consisted of imitating the behavior of others. A boy might acquire his father's style of talking, his mother's tendency to roll her eyes, and his favorite basketball player's moves on the court, claimed by Doctor Skinner. Moreover, when they grow up, their values of scopes and behaviors inherited from their parents will determine the character of the society. Therefore, the success of children's socialization is capable of improving the society in some measure.

Besides the socialization, formal educations are playing an influential role at the present society. Without courses of moral sentiments and civic values, black people might be still sitting on the back seats in the bus. What's worse, without the deep courses about science and technologies, Geocentric would be still acceptable, and no one would believe that all measurement of time and space depends on judgments as to whether two distant events occur simultaneously. Therefore, as the evidence demonstrated, formal education should not be neglected.

Concerning the second question, the speaker asserts that we could not cultivate our children to build thrive community or glorious country. On the individual level, this allegation contradicts the situation of our present society. It is universally known that during the recent centuries, our society made remarkable progress. Consider the science, twenty years ago, the internet was still the mystical province of physicists, but today it has become the commonplace encyclopedia for millions school children. Turning to the social science, we end the theocracy after the medieval ages, and we abolish the awful scourge of slavery. What’s more, more people on this planet live under democracy than dictatorship. Accordingly, this evidence strongly illustrate that we did achieve a lots in nowadays. Thus I believe that our children would continue our careers, and the future still belongs to us.


To sum up, as the evidences above illuminated, children's socialization will determine the destiny of society. On the other hand, besides socialization, formal education is playing a crucial role. When concerning the second question, our society is better than yesterday. It is proved that we have the ability to raise our children to build a brilliant future.
