2Competition isultimately more beneficial than detrimental to society.
Competition comes along with the born andevolution of life, together with the selection of environment, it has createdand is still creating a world of diversity. However, coming to the humansociety, competition can act as both an angel and a devil. Since human societyis huge and complex, whether it is more benefits or more detriments competitionbrings varies a lot and depends on plenty of aspects. To expound this issue, wecan focus on three different relationships of human society: the individual-individualrelationship, the community-community relationship, and the internationalrelationship.

For individual, to begin with, competitionis no doubt a double-edged sword. To find evidence of
benefit, one need check no further than aschool where through competing with each other students can find out what theyare good at and what they are lack of. Those who are born to be athletes willstand out in sports competition; those who are lack of imagination will realizethat being a designer is not their piece of cake so they can sprout in otherfields like being a journalist. For evidence of detriment, one might refer tothe daily newspapers, where he can always see reports on people committingsuicide because of losing jobs, failing in exams, or dumped by theirgirlfriends or boyfriends etc., which are also descendants of competition. Therefore, competition can spur a person to be the best one that she/he can beor tear down people with weakness in metal spirits, so it might be too hasty toweight benefits over detriments.

Coming to the community level, whichconsists of individuals, the two sides of competition are clearer. Takingelection, even in a small town, as an example, candidates of mayor compete witheach other to get elected. Admittedly, in a democracy country, candidates mustdo their best to gratify their voters with policies that can serve the interestof the majority, so as to gain their votes. This in turn, will accelerate thedevelopment of society and benefit many people. However, the side-fact of thesedemocratic elections should by no means be ignored. Since different candidatesusually represent different groups of people or even different races of people, success of no single one can completely satisfy all voters. At suchcircumstance, the minority might feel discharged or even worse, hopeless. This,in turn, will lead to the split of society, and in some extreme situation endwith violence or even civil war. Moreover, similar concern also exists ineconomics where free competition among factories and stores can propel the useof new technology and provide consumers goods with higher qualities but lowerprice or on the other hand, breed the nightmare of free market: monopoly. Monopolywill then nurture corruption and breaks down the justice of society. Thus, fora democracy country, the ultimate consequence that competition can bring aboutin politics as well as economics is hard to predict.

With globalization now an irreversibletrend, competitions among different countries become more and more fiercely notonly in economics, military, but also in culture. The benefits of economiccompetition between different countries are not difficult to recognize. Inorder to win the competition, governments need to boost the economic, which inturn will bring plenty of job opportunities. In addition, almost all countriesaround world know by heart the truth that competition among different countriesis actually the match of overall national strength in which technology andeducation play indelible roles. Thus, to stand not defeated, more money will beinvested into institutes and schools, and this money is surely brightening ourfuture. Meanwhile, drawbacks of competition in global level specifically inmilitary and culture cannot be underestimated. Weapon races, particularlynuclear weapon races, set a massive boom in our planet that any tiny sparkcould detonate the boom and eliminate human civilization from this beautifulplanet. Moreover, culture diversity is also endangered because certain culture, although may have shining history, faces tremendous challenges in sustainingcaused by lack of heirs. Michael Jackson, for instance, had more influence amongyoung people in China than anyone of those masters in Peking Opera. Togetherwith trade protectionism, nationalism and Religion Ultimatism that can behatched by global competition, can we indiscreetly claim that competition isultimately more beneficial than detrimental to society?

According to what have been discussed above, competition itself is no more beneficial or detrimental; it is the result itcauses that is salutiferous or deleterious. Thus, inside the country we shouldenact laws and rules to standardizing competition, and around the worlddifferent nations need to enforce cooperation and enlarge understanding. Onlyby doing this can we positively announce that competition is ultimately morebeneficial to human society.
