  Instruction is complex especially at college and university level, because the knowledge at this level is more abstruse and uncertain, the college and university have special responsibility to improve society’s advancement. The instruction goal of college and university is attain knowledge and give back to the society. To improve the quality of the college and university’s instruction, teachers and students need learn indirect experiences from professor’s teaching or relevant books, and also need practice relevant courses to help to understand theory and give back to the real world.
  In the view of attaining knowledge, people should learn both direct and indirect experiences. At the level of the college and university, students begin to touch the abstruse knowledge which may be uncertain and can be overthrown in changing times. For example, in psychology field, the learners should understand various opinions from different psychological schools those sometimes are opposite, and construct their own knowledge tree. At the same time, they should talk with some person whose mental is abnormal. Lack of either above experiences, the process of learning knowledge is not entire, consequently, the result may fail to meet instruction goal.
  Further, theory and practice interacts each other. Theory instructs human’s practice, while practice is the sole criterion of truthand the resource of theory. Through studying theory, students will better understand the material world. At the same time, in the process of practicing, students can prove the theory and
may gain research inspiration. In pedagogy study, students should read books about not only pedagogy, but also psychology, sociology, anthropology and so on. So that the students could overall understand the pedagogy. Because of studying theory, the students may feel more freely when they face some education problem. However, the concrete education object is changing by space and time. It is not persuasive to say that any theory is absolutely right. By teaching child, the students may find every theory has limitations, and may create their own theory about some phenomenon.
  Additionally, one of the most important duties of the college and the university is to improve the development of society. The nations give the college and the university financial support in order to advance country’s material and spiritual progress. For example, in China there are lots of students voluntary teach in backwater area for one or two years at the university. During that time, the students not only practice education theory, but the more important meaning is that they promote level of the local education quality in some sense.
   In conclusion, it is no doubt that the college and the university should encourage their faculty to spend time on working outside the academic world, so that students and teachers will understand well or even improve the relevant knowledge, but the theory study is also important for any learners. To improve quality of the college and the university’s instruction and attain the instruction goal finally, we need emphasize both way of studying.
