标 题: BJ返签atypical departure&re-entry story
发信站: BBS 水木清华站 (Fri Jun 6 15:27:59 2003)
I left from BJ Capital Airport to Shenzhen on June 01 and arrived in Hong Kong
around 10:00pm of June 01. At Luohu Chinese Customs, I just showed my passpor
t and visa, of course, filled out a form claiming I did not have fever, cough,
contacted SARS patient within past 14 days, visited SARS-affected area within
past 14 days(I still checked NO on this question to avoid possible trouble, e
ven though I came from BJ), on the other side of the Hong Kong Customs, I show
ed them my round-trip ticket and telling them my new schedule since that ticke
t expired on Jan 02(due to notorious visa check). They issued me 7-day staying
permit in Hong Kong, but I didn't have any intention to stay that long and le
ft for US on June 04.
I stayed in Prince of Wales Hospital of CUHK for 3 days, where the Sars severe
ly hit this hospital last March(before Amoy Gardens outbreak), and to my surp
rise, this hospital had never quarantined/isolated for one day. There were not
ices'To be considerate, please wear face mask, blah, blah," everywhere in the
hospital, but no any slogan or note in the street or on the buses, not a singl
e one. One nurse of the PWHospital dead on May 31 and one doctor of nearby Tai
Po Hospital dead on June 01 at the age of 30, the youngest doctor and the 8th
health worker to die of SARS at HK. Both are female and the doctor are still
single and provided by parents. To face the death evil so close, I feel that m
y suffering for my 5-month visa delay is just a null.
I flied for Seoul on the early morning of June 04 in HK and the HK customs jus
t tested my body temperature without telling me the result. I stayed in Incheo
n Airport for 7 hours before boarded on my flight to Chicago. After traveling
in the air for 12hours, 10508km, I arrived in Chicago arround in 11:30am of Ju
ne 04. Everybody from this plane were given a Health Alert Notice written by 8
languages, including traditional and simplified Chinese: ). At the US Customs
, I found a slogan like 'keep month-and-foot disease out of America':-), no an
y anti-SARS slogan. The stupid Customs inspector even marked my first, epired
visa(I have three US visas on my passport). When I reminded him, he just said
'never mind'. There were only two or three F1 students at that moment and our
I-20s were passed through a special procedure in a different room and they let
us wait for about 20 minutes to release us(never told us what they checked on
us). Nobody opened my baggages at the Customs but United Airline probably ope
ned one of my check-in baggages to Cleveland since I found my unlucked lugagge was seal
ed by a plastic tie. My piratic CDs, foods, cookies and more are untouched. I
arrived in Cleveland around 6:00pm on June 04 and now suffering my time diffe
rence in front of my PC: (
This is my re-entry story and hope I did not miss any important points for the
prospective checkees to enter US border. Here I would like to thank SMTH visa
section to provide this forum to let the checkees, including me, share our st
ories for the past desperate months and best wishes to andy99, mousecat, fusil
ier, mbd, beari, bugs, and all other checkees to get release very soon, best w
ishes to lingerer, yiz114, edson, woaiqinwa, buffbuff777, runningfool for a go
od trip back to USA. Thanks to weichuan, echowang2002 for picking me as your f
riend and wish you two get your visas this month. I am here giving my special
thanks to Jax03 for writing such a touching letter to CUCSSA visa promotion c
ommittee, Jax03, you just said exactly what I wanted to say and I am really mo
ved by your kind words, I am very pride to be your friend, I love you! |
