208. "The way people look, dress, and act reveals their attitudes and interests. You can tell much about a society's ideas and values by observing the appearance and behavior of its people."
分类:行为
The statement generalizes that the way people look, dress, and act reveals their attitudes and society’s ideas and values. While I concede that observing the appearance and behavior of people can learn some content about social concept and values to some degree, yet I cannot endorse the thesis overall. In some cases, we cannot see the real image disclosing ones’ attitude or even social values.
On one hand, we can usually see someone’s attitudes and values with observations of their expression, wearing, and behavior. When one enjoys various luxury objects such as jewels and dressing, he or she would be considered as a person going in for material comforts or money worship, otherwise be adverse. If there is frequently smile on one’s face when the one encounter others, people would believe that who has affinity and is positive to life and world. The society is composed with people of all kinds any of who stands for some point of view of social ideas and values. Thus, the concepts of society are minored on the persons of all forms.
Nevertheless, on the other hand, sometimes we would be confused by one’s image while that is not true. In modern times, people lived in the society would learn to disguise to another kind of person who cannot be on behalf of the real one. Somebody maybe protect oneself as a springboard, and somebody maybe perform as the rule of company or act required as one stands at a particular working position. For instance, one would be required having a tongue in one’s head as a salesman who prefer quietness originally. In this case, it is society requesting people’s values and attitudes accordant with its rule, even if one cannot show himself or herself sincerely. Even it is the society that assists people forming one’s attitudes and values.
Moreover, the society is diversified so that it cannot delegate any single. Everyone can only reflect one small part of the intricate and multivariate society. Thus, the view that one could tell much about the society by observing one’s expression seems not very accurate and strict. If people want to learn about social ideas and values, there must be sufficient quantity accumulation and multi-angle observation and intensive analysis. Sometimes, even if one lives and observes for a long time, he or she could not learn more about the society.
In sum, there are two situations to the contrary, one of which is people could tell much about the society from observation of style of one’s appearance and the other is that it is not saying whenever and whoever you observe, you could see the revealing social ideas and values. In many events, we cannot perceive that we want to see from some single’s look, dress, and act, much more disclose the concepts and values of the society. We need observe large number of persons and taste slowly, and then we would probably tell something about the society. |
