Should students question what they are taught instead of accepting it passively while learning? As far as I am concerned, necessarily only through skepticism can students better understand the theory, principles and assumptions with their own thoughts. Therefore, I fundamentally agree with the speaker that anything students study should be questioned for the following reasons.
First of all, a certain extent of skeptic attitude towards things that taught to students usually encourages them to think cautiously
on the established theory, principles and laws. With developing such spirit of doubts, one may search for more information in library or on the Internet, to some extent, it urges students to develop the ability of self learning and solving problems by oneself, what is more, one may surprisingly found that what seems profound to them previously now is just a piece of cake, and they step deeply into the world of science. On the other hand, bring certain skepticism may inspire one to ask questions which is regarded as the base of inventions and initiations, things taught to students may not always be true and beliefs hold by our ancestors might not be always right, it is the doubtful spirit that plums society step forward and make some unbelievable things come true. If without Newton's doubts about falling apples, principle of gravity could be veiled, If Einstein
did not like asking strange questions but believing what he has been taught, physical advancement may experiencing a longer time. Thanks to their skepticism, human society achieved such magnificent progress.
In a general view of human history, it is replete with examples of students of sciences who challenged what they have learned instead of accepting without thinking independently. Not only in scientific field but also art or literary area, skeptic spirit plays a significant role in both individual and social improvement. Students must challenge established styles and forms rather than learn to imitates notable works. Bee-bop musicians such as Charlie parker demonstrated through their wildly innovative harmonies and melodies their skepticism about established rules for harmony and melody. In the field of literature, modern Sonnet is a new kind of poem which combined free verse and old-fashioned sonnet together, it does not have to rhyme but must be consistent.
If we were all to accept on blind faith all that we are taught, it is quite easily get into the blind area of doctrine and rigidity. Another disadvantage is everyone accept what is taught and hold a belief in what one has
learned is absolutely right, society becomes bald due to lack of diverse kinds of dynamic factors. This monotony is the main obstacle stops progressing way.
To sum up, skepticism will inspire students learn more effectively and efficiently, and makes them possible to find discoveries in the days ahead. It should be pay more attention to while during teaching and learning procedure. |
