Skepticism;
WORDS: 529 TIME: 02:00:00
Nowadays, critical thinking is encouraged in schools, but doesn't exist generally. To marjority of people, the marks of examination is important and the answers are definite and correct without questioning. However, it is not the aim of education. Students should question actively and throughly what they have been taught instead of accepting it without any personal thinking.
Skepticism is not to overturn or reject any theories and knowledge you learnt, but to consider it deeply and entirely before accepting it. The results are not as important as the processing of thinking and proving. Yes, you must find data to support your hypothesis and test what you think. For example, you can debate with your teachers and classmates, find literaries in library, practice an experiment and so on. Barely against everything your have been taught, without the course of testing, your study is irrational and absurd -- it seems like a closed box lost keys, rejecting any new stuff without any reason. Through the confirming, your understanding of the primary question would be deeper and deeper. What's more, a student can not put forward a question unless he/she is really interested in the subject and considers it seriously before. Therefore, the knowledge will leave a deep impression in your mind and what you have studied long time ago will be remembered easily again. Hence, by critical thinking about what have been taught to students, they have been learned effectively and deeply.
Skepticism is also a necessary skill for adults who were students. Sometimes, scholars and professors need to research in the basic of prior researches. If you hold on the answers correct and definiteq, you would not bring forward your own question. And then you would not design your own experiment and solve the problem originally. In another way, most situations scholars encountered are unknown without definite answers. What the scientists should do is to find the answer, thus, they need to question and prove it. Not only to scholars, the skill is also important to other occupations, even everybody. Everyday, things happen without our anticipation, and yet require solutions. There are no existed answers waiting for us but only questions. Even if others have encoutered the same things, how do you ensured the answers are correct and fit for you? Such skills, questioning and solving, need to be accumulated from childhood to make sure when they face such a problem which has no definite answers, their minds won't freeze regarding what to be done. |
