题目:
Some people think all the new buildings should be built in traditional styles. To what extent do you agree?
In present age, buildings are playing significant role in our life. But in the meantime, whether all the new buildings in the cities should be constructed in traditional styles has become a highly debatable issue. Personally, I think this view is only partly true.
Convincing arguments can be made that new buildings should not be built in old-fashion styles. To start with, the difference of constructs is an indispensable part of a progressive city with culture diversity. Take Beijing for example, it has the traditional buildings like lane which is a typical representative in the architectural history, as well as many new-built skyscrapers which reflects the urbanization of Beijing. It is this contrast that makes Beijing a more attractive place. Moreover, the buildings, more or less, are likely recorders of a city’s development. More precisely, each age is somehow characterized by the buildings at that period, the same as other cultural identities like clothes, diet etc. If we designed all the buildings in traditional ways, we would loss our current cultural trace, which cannot be known by our offspring in the future. Additionally, with only the traditional style constructs in one city, it would render the city monotonous and unmotivating to be explored by the tourists. As a matter of fact, living in a environment with various cityscapes can relax the individuals bodies and ease their minds.
Admittedly, constructing the buildings in traditional styles is reasonable. This is due to the fact that if all the new building are in old styles, the city will have a cleaner and stronger identity in the world. Obviously, a unitive architectural complex looks more spectacular than sporadic construct. Even so, a city in undated with only traditional style buildings is less attractive and has no creativity. For instance, some cities with rich cultural heritage now choose to preserve the old buildings for tourist spots, and build new style structures for citizens to live in, instead of keeping the whole cityscape in the same style, which may be incompatible with the development of the city.
In summary, I would concede that new buildings should be built in the traditional styles. Despite that, it is fairly unsuitable to design all the new buildings in old-fashion. Overall, I am convinced that the authorities should preserve the time-honored buildings, at the same time, and construct modern and innovative buildings that can reflect a city’s development.
