When we review the history of human beings,we are always appealed by the exciting moments of the most significant eventsand trends. When it comes to the question that who actually make them, thefamous few or the ordinary majority, different opinions are held by differentindividuals. Admittedly, the few outstanding figures play an important role inmaking the most significant events and trends, while we should also emphasizethe value of the groups of people. It seems true that the study of historyplaces more emphasis on individuals than on majority. However, it does not meanthat historians underestimate their importance and contribution.

Minority of outstanding people are givenhighlighted status in history. History remembers the most significant eventsand trends which were groundbreaking at their time. These events and trendswere beyond the limit of era, so that it required outstanding and talentedpeople to accomplish. History has informed us that, in every era of history,the real outstanding and talented people are always the minority, thecompetence of the majority of people are limited by the time they belong to.Thus we can almost see crucial influence made by some minority. Without theirgreat contributions, the history of human beings would have been gloomier.Numerous cases in history can prove this point, such as Lincoln and slaveryabortion, Gandhi and India's independence, Martin Luther King and Civil RightsMovement. Considering Another example, the Apollo Program would never succeedhad it not been for the adorable courage and endeavor of the three astronauts.When Armstrong landed on the moon and said, "One small step for man, one giantleap for mankind", the great victory of human beings was recorded, alongwith him and his famous words.

However, we should never forget the greatcontribution made by the majority whose names are not documented in history.The power of an individual is by no means tiny. But when that power fromhundreds of thousands of people adds up together, it can make a realdifference. The most significant events and trends are too tough forindividuals to make, without the unity of the majority, we could never makereal accomplishment. Again, considering the example of Apollo Program, at onetime, as many as twenty thousand enterprises, eight hundred universities andinstitutes, and four hundred thousand technicians participated the program.While students repeat the three astronauts' names in history classes, theyshould equally admire the contributions made by those people.

Although in my view the majority of peopleshould be given the same status in history as the outstanding and famous few,it seems true that history places more emphasis on individuals. It is becausethe majority was hardly recorded in documents, while the famous few were easierto be remembered by recorders. Thus, when historians review such documents,they can hardly find their names, not mention the contributions they made. Yethistorians still praise the majority, and by studying the documents of thefamous few, we can also study the effect of the majority, who were related tothe few, on the most significant events and trends. That's why historians paymore attention to individuals.

History should remember the majority, sincethe happy life we are living now would never be real without them. We rememberbecause we are taught to be grateful, and we also hope to be remembered by thenext generation for what we do for their happiness.
