With the highly development of economics and the boom of child birth, human beings face the problems of the shortage of natural resources, especially the land. However, some scientists stated that we should reserve land for endangered animals. Therefore, the question raised that whether we should reserve land for ourselves or for endangered animals. As for me, the answer is we should reserve land for endangered animals.

At first, all animals have important places in the biological system. We may think that some animals such as ants may don’t have influence on our daily life. But the truth is we would never know how much the actual influence is. It is without doubt that all animals have their own place in the food supply chain. Once the chain is broken due to the extinction of a certain animal, the consequence is incredible severe. The upper class animals may experience a hard time because the shortage of food while the lower class animals may on the other hand may have a good time due to the shortage of enemy. As a result, some animals including pests may thrive in this situation. Therefore, the lost of balance in the natural system may in the end have bad effect on our daily life.

Secondly, animals themselves are quite important to give the light to inspire us. It is well-known that many high-tech products that we are proud of are the products we get ideas from animals. For example, we learn how to reduce the water resistance from watching fish swimming in the ocean. Thanks for fishes, we build submarine which enable us to have a long voyage without worrying about the extreme environment. Besides, we invent radar by learning how bats catch insects in the dark. Animals can inspire us a lot and we may suffer from a great loss in the extinction of endangered animals.

To sum up, endangered animals may have potential benefits to us and the benefits are hard to estimate. Protecting the endangered animals may be the same to protecting human beings. Therefore, it is more important to reserve land for endangered animals.

7.8. Students would receive a better, effective education if they were required to attend classes for 11 months of a year.

Nowadays, students usually attend classes for 9 months of a year, leaving 1 month for winter break and 2 months for summer break. However, some people suggest that students should attend classes for 11 months of a year and they claim that students would receive a better, effective education for it. As for me, I strongly disagree with the proposal because it has following drawbacks.

At first, winter break and summer break is essential for students. Obviously in severe environment, students can’t study as effective as usual days. Therefore, it is better for students to have a rest in these days rather than keep on studying. Some people may argue that with the well-equipped dormitory, students won’t suffer from freezing or heat due to air conditioners. However, the reasons for the existence of winter break and summer break are not limited to stay away from severe environment. As a matter of fact, these breaks provide students a chance to think about what they really want to do after the graduation. Since many students have part-time jobs in vacation, it really helps them to make their own career plan.

Secondly, teachers may need some time to have a rest and update their skills. With the rapid development of technology, teachers have to study harder than before to catch up with the latest knowledge. In this sense, winter break and summer break is essential for teachers as well because they can make full use of these 3 months to equip themselves with the latest skills. As a result, students can benefit from getting the knowledge from teachers and becoming more efficient in study.

What’s more, schools can update the instruments they equipped during the leaving time. Since students would have to do some research in their education, keeping instruments in perfect situation is vital for the student to have a better educational experience. Besides, installing some instruments may need several months therefore it is better to finish the job in vocation.

To sum up, even though attending classes for 11 months of a year enables students to receive a longer education, it is not a good, effective way as we can see from the above reasons. Accordingly, in my opinion, I prefer to the choice that students have winter and summer break and attend classes for 9 months of a year.

Many teachers assign homework to students every day. Do you think that daily homework is necessary for students? Use specific reasons and details to support your answer.

Nowadays has witnessed the unprecedented debate over whether teachers should assign homework to students every day. Some people state that daily homework is necessary because it help students to think deep, while others argue that since students have great study pressure, it is not wise for teachers to assign daily homework. As for me, I agree with the latter assertion and my reasons are listed as follows.

First of all, it is undoubtedly that daily homework took lots of time for students. In this sense, students may not have enough time to have their own thinking about the class. Even though daily homework helps student to have the better understanding about the class, but the range is limited in what the homework covers. Having own thinking, on the other hand, provides students a chance to discover the drawbacks in their study themselves, and accordingly they can focus on these weak points and make great progress. Obviously, figuring out the drawbacks and dealing with them are more efficient to study than just finishing daily homework, and therefore, students should save limited time to discover their own problems other than focusing on daily homework.

What’s more, students may lose their interest towards study due to all the overloaded homework, which could have negative influence on the study. Once students’ everyday life is occupied with tedious homework, it is predictable that they may lose the interest for study. Since it is worldwide acceptable that interest plays in crucial part in study, losing the interest means that students study in an inefficient way. Take me for example, I was once a top student in math class because I loved math. But things changed when a strict math teacher came to my class and asked all the students to do piles of homework after class. Gradually I lose my interest in math. As a result, my grade in math experienced a sharply decrease.

Last but not least, correcting daily homework costs lots of time of teachers. Even though some teachers have rich experience in teaching, but with the high development of technology, they still need lots of time to keep up with the latest knowledge. In the sense, under the burden of correcting daily homework, teachers may not have enough time to prepare well for the class tomorrow. As a result, students can not receive education of good quality and the consequence is definitely not what daily homework aims for.

To sum up, daily homework takes precious time for student to find their own problems, makes students lose their interest to study and leaves teachers badly-prepared for class. Therefore, I strongly suggest that teachers not to assign daily homework to students.

7.13 It’s better to watch serious movies that help people think than to watch movies that could amuse and entertain people.

Nowadays has witnessed a lot of progress in quality of people’s life, one example is we have much more movies to watch than ever before. Consequently, another problem rises up, which is whether to watch movies that could amuse and entertain people or to watch serious movies that help people think. As for me, I tend to choose watching movies for amusement and entertainment.

First of all, watching funny movies can help people to relieve pressure. Since modern people suffer from the stress and pressure from both the work and study, they may be tired after a whole day work/study. In this sense, watching serious movies can only add stress and pressure to them, making them more exhausted. Fun movies, on the other hand, can relieve people from the sever pressure by making them laugh.

In addition, people are more likely to watch funny movies than serious movies with friends. Even though we can watch serious movies with friends, it may be a little strange because it seems that people who pick up the film is trying to prove that he/she is a thoughtful person. If you watch funny movies with your friends, however, the situation has been changed. It is much easier because everybody is laughing, which will definitely help you to maintain the friendship.

Last but not least, funny movies are usually short. It is widely known that people do not have many spare time these days due to the high workload. Therefore, funny movies are better for modern people to finish in limited time. Watching movies for several times may help you get a better understanding of the movies, watching movies as several parts, however, will make you forget what the previous part is talking about. Accordingly, finishing a movie in one time is better, which means watching funny movies is a better decision.

To conclude, funny movies can help people to relieve pressure, they can help to maintain friendship and they are usually short. Therefore, I agree with the statement that it’s better to watch movies that could amuse and entertain people than to watch serious movies that help people think.

When talking about businessmen, people may think that they are only motivated by desire of money. But people’s desire is usually a complex one, therefore, I strongly disagree with the points of view.

First of all, businessmen can be motivated by the love of family. Many successful businessmen wrote in their autobiology that the happiest moment they have is not the moment when they obtain a big fortune, on the other hand, is the moment when they receive a big loving hug from the family. In this sense, these businessmen value family much more than just money. Family members are someone you can always rely on. Their support will encourage you in the low time and their cheerfulness will help you gain the sense of achievement.

Besides, businessmen can be motivated by the respect they receive from the society. It is well-known that many successful businessmen are also successful philanthropist nowadays. They donate large quantity of money to help people rebuild their home after natural disasters, help poor children get education in their village, and help old people live happily without financial burden. In this way, they gain the respect because they make great contribution to the society. They can also get the sense of self-respect or self-achievement by donation, which is in the top layer of needs according to the Maslow model.

Last but not least, when the money you have has come to a certain point, then you may not be motivated by more money. Imagine you are very hungry right now, if you have a hamburger, you will eat the hamburger quickly and happily. When you get the second hamburger, you may eat this one as well because you are a little hungry. But when you get the third hamburger, you wouldn’t want to eat anymore because you are full.
