TOPIC: ISSUE51 - "Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student."

The speaker asserts that in order to have effective education educators should design courses and strategies to cater individual's specific interests. While I concede that interest is important in the process of learning, the speaker's assertion is too extreme.

I agree with the speaker insofar as every student has different interests and inclines in exploring the treasure of knowledge.
Interest in a specific field usually plays as the overhead lamp in the early growing period of students. Since everyone has experience in different family, childhood and inspiration around, it is natural students have various preference in learning. A girl, who grew up in the countryside, where rich in plants and insects, may be fond of biology specially. Similarly, a boy's interest in engineering could spring out from stories told by his father, who is the third engineer in their family. With these special preference, which is often considered as the "best teacher of children", students could even study by themselves no matter how hard the work is.

Nevertheless, nowadays it seems to me that our whole society emphasis too much on the importance of interests of individuals. The adverse impact appear in the excuses found by students for their carelessness and idleness in learning, Without exploiting in any subject, students who embrace little knowledge shout out that their low grade point results from poor interest in the subjects school provided, because mathematics is dull, physics is too hard and literature is rigid. Yet every small amount of gain including happiness and interesting experience we got from knowledge need sincere pain. As the old words that "practice makes perfect", how can one perform perfect without hard work? In a not dissimilar way, students must spend their time, thought as well as energy in the course, then they have the possibility to harvest the fruit of interest. That is to say, as far as we contribute our endeavor to subjects which are benefits to human beings, interest and craving in learning the course could proliferate by natural.

Moreover, besides individual's specific needs and interests, there are some basic values in common upon which any democratic society depends. Whatever students' special interests are, practicing the basic values will serve them well when they grow into working adults. These fundamental values and principles including equity, tolerance, responsibility and straightforward character are necessary factors of effective education since the definition of education is teaching young people principles for living and preparing them for the ever-changing world. These virtues should be taught to every student in spite of his preference in chemistry or computer, and must be considered as the solid foundation of students' mature spirit. Specific designation of subject in learning only in accordance with individual's interest could not tell the student how to determine whether his goal is meaningful, ethically or morally acceptable.

In sum, the importance of individual's need and interest has call on society's enough consideration. However, undue emphasis on individual's interest could bring deleterious effects since some students want special preference without any personal effort. And lacking of the teaching of common basic values, education could not be effective either.

2. 继续看范文，学习优秀的表达方式，尽量不要中文译英文式的表达，这个我也在努力中。
