TOPIC: ARGUMENT159 - The nation of Claria covers a vast physical area. But despite wide geographic differences, many citizens are experiencing rising costs of electricity. A recent study of household electric costs in Claria found that families who cooled their houses with fans alone spent more on electricity than did families using air conditioners alone for cooling. However, those households that reported using both fans and air conditioners spent less on electricity than those households that used either fans or air conditioners alone. Thus, the citizens of Claria should follow the study's recommendation and use both air conditioners and fans in order to save money on electricity.

In order to save money on electricity of the nation of Claria, the author recommended to use both air conditioners and fans merely based on a recent study which suffers some weak spots and the ignorance of the demerits this action would bring about. I will discuss this in detail in due course.
The author first assumes that the household electric costs of the houses where people use both fans and airconditioners would be lower over the whole nation than those households that used either fans or air conditioners alone. Yet, it might not the case. After all, the author has not provide sufficient evidence to show that the study was conducted covering enough areas, thus could make the result representative. It is entirely possible that the study just focused on the specific area among the vast physical area of Claria.
Moreover, in the article, the author point out that it is the households "reported" using both fans and air conditioners spent less, then what about the households which were not reported? Are they actually of the main propotion of the overall population? Would they save more electricity than those reported due to climate and geographic differences? If any of the scenes exists, the argument of the author would be detrimented.
Given that the result of the study is free of prolems and can represent the overall circumstance of the nation, the recommendation should be thought twice considering the potential advantages it would bring. Perhaps, this way of use could not reach the standard of cooling the house; people in some area particularly hot may suffer from the hot weather. Or perhaps, to conduct the action and make each household conforms to it would cost much more than simply make the households do what they want. Thus, it must more sensitive to keep the current condition.
In sum, the author's analysis to save the cost of electricity is worthy for saving the cost of the whole nation, after all, the electricity cost is of the main cost of a nation. If succeed, the action would stand to gain largely. However, the author's recommendation has some weak spots and need furthur studied before put into practice. Or maybe, the author could try to save the cost of other respects, not of the cooling.
