TOPIC: ISSUE65 - "People have been so encouraged by society to focus on apparent differences that they fail to see meaningful similarities among ideas, individuals, and groups."
We all love colorful pictures than black-white ones because we think different colors contribute beauty.
In many cases we tend to be different from others.
When we buy clothes or shoes we avoid choosing the same items of other ones. And the most embarrassing thing is wearing the newly bought dress in the party where you find someone just wearing the same. When we choosing birthday present, we often ask others what they give, and try to give different presents.
It's common sense that we all want to be focused. Differences make us stand out of the crowd.
And as a result, we try to do things in our own ways.
When I was in high school, my Chinese teacher told the class:" you must give a new essay that different from the popularity" He added that essay with new ideas could catch the eyes of the teachers who had read hundreds of the similar papers.
In academics, scholars and researchers tend to study something that few people have researched or they may give their answer to the same question in their own ways.
People may say pursuing differences may neglect the similarities. But similarities are what we are going for. We have hundreds of means to finish one thing. The ways we do are the differences and the destination we share are the similarities.
We can fly to London if we want to save time, we can take the train if we enjoy the change of scenery out of the window, we can get on the ship if love the sea breeze blowing past. No matter how we make it, we make it. It's our freedom to determine how we attain something as long as we are going for the same destination.
Differences are important because it give us the stage to perform. If we are deprived of the differences, our vigor and creativity are also deprived. In China, the Spoon-feed Education are popular all over the country. In our classes, teachers told us that there is only one answer to one question. Whenever a student comes up with a new way of thinking and writes it on the paper shit, he/her will get a red cross in it. At this time, the teachers and even his/her classmates tell him/her what the "correct" answer is. Gradually, student will lose the interests of learning, give in to obey. That's what makes Chinese students nowadays lacking the ability of creativity.
In nature, we see flowers in yellow or red, big or small, with different shapes, and with different scents. No matter how they "behavior", they all help contribute the beauty of our nature.
