【题目】Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student.

Nowadays, issues about how the effective education should be have been widely discussed. Some people claim that the education can be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student, while I agree with this view with reservation.

The function of education is to equip citizens with general knowledge and exploiting their potential power, an effective education means a process that make students fully exploited and can benefit the society.

Admittedly, an education designed to meet every individual's needs and interests will be welcomed. Like Confucius, the ancient Chinese philosopher, once suggested, "Educating should be individualized." Students with different talents and interests will definitely benefit from this kind of education. As a great scientist once said and I paraphrased, "Interest is a student’s best teacher." That vividly illustrates the impact of interests to a student. They are motivated to learn what they are interested in initiatively without any force from parents and teachers and will do better in that field.

Meanwhile, some talented students in certain field will benefit a lot from individualized education. As known to all, education in middle schools and high schools in China emphasized too much on the comprehensive development of students to meet a high enrollment rate to colleges which ignoring students' talents in certain subjects and lead to a result of genius ignorance. Some talents are not qualified to enter universities due to the overall requirement of today's education. Such educational system that prevents students specialized in certain field can not called effective.

However, a new educational system that designed to meet all the students' needs and interests is not effective, neither. Students in different ages often have different interests and needs. When we were in kindergarten and primary schools, most of us only wanted toys and playing games. Even in middle schools, our interests still changed from time to time, only few of students were interested in certain subjects and really did well in it. That is to say, most of students don't know what they really want in an education, thus educators should help those students with scheduled classes and equipped them with general knowledge which is necessary in their future lives.

Moreover, too much emphasis on individualized education before colleges will result in chaos both in the process of educating and in the enrolling of universities. As students' needs and interests change, it will be hard to design a proper schedule for each student that can meet their needs all the time and are beneficial for their careers. What's more, if all the students in high schools have different classes and follow different educational systems, the standards of universities' enrollments will be vague and hard to be defined. As high school students all educated separately, they cannot be tested equally with same subjects which will be a huge problem for educators.

In my opinion, a compromise can be a solution for this dilemma. Without an individualized education, talented students can take special competitions as a testimony for their genius in certain area and be admitted by universities through different process from students with general educations. Students in colleges can determine and choose what they want and interested in as their majors. As a person fully equipped with general knowledge, they can easily find out what they are really interested in.

In sum, education should be designed differently for some talented students but not each student especially in basic education times. The way for effective education is to make everyone doing well in their field and can lead a better career.
