ISSUE40 - "Scholars and researchers should not be concerned with whether their work makes a contribution to the larger society. It is more important that they pursue their individual interests, however unusual or idiosyncratic those interests may seem."

In this era of technology developing in high speed, scholars and researchers play more significant role than before. And how to make science and technology contribute more and in an efficient way for our society is a big problem to us. It's difficult to let all the scholars and reseachers work only for society though sometimes this works against their interest. With interest they work more efficient. Hence it's a wise decision that let them pursue their individual interests.
As a saying goes, interest is the best teacher. As student of physics, I deeply understand and experience to this proverb. When I was studying in problems with great interests, I could forget that I'm hungery and even in mid-night I didn't feel tired and sleepy until I finished these problems. In that situation, I just like a hungery tiger fighting for food. In my eye the quarries problems were the only thing in my world. I devoted myself in these problems. To think about this how efficient I do these problems. It's needless to say that scholars and researchers in an unimaging high efficiency when working for their interests.
A part of theories seemed useless for our society and which had done for scientists' interests, but as the time going its importance for society shows slowly. Take the quantum mechanics as an instance, at the period quantum mechanics began Einstein and some other greaters in physics opposed to Bohr and de Broglie who were founders of quantum mechanics. Masses always followed the greaters' opinion and put quantum mechanics as rubbish. If Bohr and de Broglie gave up this theory under masses' depression, we could not have some convinience such as high speed Internet. What are more, heliocentric and Mendel's genetic law are also theories be though useless at first and over time to show its usefulness. We cannot deny that scholars and researchers' interests are more sensitive than the public opinions and leaders' decisions.
Some theories which have been defined as pseudo-science and some theories which are clear that will be a danger for us should be prevent from wasting society's sources and genius' talents. For instance, alchemy, divination and astrology are typical pseudo-science which has been proved useless or even harmful for our human beings. As a scholar or researcher, you should not waste the research funding from government or some other institution. Nevertheless, your talents and wisdom may be more important than these funding. Wasting your talent is wasting what God expect you to use to help beings. In short, it's sinner's work to study pseudo-sciences and some danger-for-us theories.
In sum, in most time we should encourage scientists working for their interests which may more sensitive than the leaders' decisions. But the pseudo-sciences and some theories which is clear that will be a danger for us should not be taken further study.
