"How children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society."
Is the destiny of society determined by the socialization of our children? The speaker claims so, but I tend to disagree. Admittedly, how children are socialized may has influence on the society. However, I find it inappropriate to say socialization of children determining the destiny of society.
Socialization is essential for children not only in study but also in perfecting personality. It seems fine for children in early age to work or study alone since the task assigned is quite easy, but when they grow up, they will find the school task is too complicated to finish all by oneself and hence need teamwork. If children know nothing about socializing, they can hardly cooperating with others and gain little from school work. Additionally, children who lack of socialization tend to grow up lonely and selfish, which could lead to psychological problems in the future.
Nevertheless, we can’t overlook other potential as well as seminal factors that may affect the society. For example, health care of children, a fundamental factor, is the prerequisite for a society to continually develop. A society where children suffer form illness in despair may suffer the work-force lost in the future and lose its power to develop. Factors such as education, environment, economic also should all be taken into account when it comes to the destiny of the society.
As for the contention that we haven’t learned how to raise children who can render our society a better one, I can’t agree more. There is no denying that educationists and teachers have devoted themselves to figure out a better way to raise children. Unfortunately, their attempt failed to bring fruition. What I see is that more and more children are drowning themselves in text books solely to be more competitive in examinations and forced to attend varieties of off-school classes and lectures against their willing which are intended to foster their interests. There is a cloud looming over our children as long as we haven’t found a better way to raise them.
To sum up, how children is socialized is one of the factors which may determine the destiny of our society but not the only and primary one. The speaker gives undue importance to the socialization of children. The speaker’s another contention that a better way to raise children hasn’t been found is quite reasonable as far as contemporary educational system is concerned.
