In this era of rapid social and technological change leading to increasingly life complexity and psychological displacement, people become more and more concentrated in ethical and moral standards of the public, especially to the leaders of the society today. There are many people who claim that, in order to guide the grant of majority well, a public leader must maintain the highest ethical and moral standards. at the first glance, this claim might seem plausible, but further reflection tells me that, what kind of a moral standard a leader need will be different in each social level and the situation he deal with.

Initially, to a statesman, obviously, of course who need the highest ethical and moral standard, as well as the requirement of public towards him. In the history, the leader with a high moral standard always greatly supported by the people and managed to rule the country well. An appropriate instance is not very hard to seek, like Abraham Lincoln, who was thought with a highest integrity and moral standard, gained so many feats during his presidency to the United States of America. In this social level, a leader will be required be able to offer a harmony society, which sustain the political fair and equal rights to the people. So under this prerequisite, the highest ethical standard turns out to be quite important, which could guarantee the normal stability and development of the society.

Subsequently, in a commercial field, to a leader in a company, or the chairman of a big corporation, the requirement would be a little different, as well as the ethical and moral standards. Generally, a business man who has extremely competence and surveillance to the commercial challenge and trading his business under the permission of the law, then he would be thought as a successful leader. Although the integrity is always important and must be maintained in this field, in many cases what a business man need for more is the ability of commercial wisdom, by which to raise more money and develop ones company prospectively, and of course, all the trade must be legal. Let’s take a look at the following representative instance, Bill gates, who is the man richest in the world, abandon the B.S program in Harvard University and then created the Microsoft Corporation by himself. Eventually, his company became the biggest software company in the world few years later. In this case, people always appreciate Bill's wisdom and business surveillance in starting his own undertaking at a right time by a right chance, but little people could believe it’s the high moral and ethical standards enable him to accomplish this feat.

At last, let's talk about the social and spiritual field. A leader in this field is definitely required to maintain the highest moral standards because, he need to use his integrity and high ethical level to influence the majority of the society. In this level, leading the majority to seek for a better environment, or the higher destinations of their lives, the leader must make people to trust in him and disposed to follow him by the impress of his charisma. For example, Martin Luther king is a leader who led his people to go against the racial discrimination, has a highly moral standards and make every person who pursuing the equality of human rights impressed and followed his leadership, eventually, they accomplished a great triumph. Many years later, although Martin Luther King was murdered during the campaign, people still remember his integrity and high moral standards, which has became a spiritual model to the offspring.

In sum, this controversy describes the dilemma faced by many people in this era. From what has been discussed above, it is not difficult for us to draw the conclusion that, while the high moral and ethical standard is always indispensable in every situation, different fields require many other qualities. After all, whether we should call for the highest ethical and moral standards of the leader should depend on different field and situations.
