50"In order to improve the quality of instruction at thecollege and university level, all faculty should be required to spend timeworking outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses theyteach."

Steppinginto the 21st century, it is universally accepted that the issue ofwhether should professors do some relevant work outside their academic world willbring benefits to the quality of education level of college as well as universityhas triggered spiritual debates: some individuals allege that professors shoulddo that to guarantee a better education standard. Personally speaking, I supposethat this assertion, to some extent, is flawed and I believe that it’s poorlysupported by our empirical evidences.

Admittedly, when considering the speaker’s assertion that working outside university orcollege would improve the quality of instruction, I would concede that it doesbenefit our education system at a certain degree. The professor would dramaticallyenlarge their knowledge scope in that they can provide much latest informationconcerning the subjects they teach which not only can enlighten the student’sdesire to learn but also can contribute to the students’ deep perceiving ofwhat they have learned before and can also offer the latest trend of employmentin those fields. Moreover, professors could find out the most useful knowledge whichtheir students would frequently use in their not-too-distant future by doingsome practical work outside the academic world.

Nevertheless, this allegation needs to be contemplated in some more sophisticated senses. It isevident that in terms of historical and recent years’ substantial celebrities, withoutbeing taught by professors who had done some practical work outside academicworld, they could succeed, as well. To start with, ancient famous philosophersare the most tangible proof in the standpoint. Aristoteles, a famous ancient Greeceerudite philosopher, who was nurture by his teacher Plato who didn’t do somepractical work outside his field of abstract thinking but merely kept thinking criticallyand analytically day after day, he succeed eventually. As for Plato, he also cultivatedby his tutor Socrates who preferred think and dream the real world all dayrather than work outside the academic field, he also succeeded finally. Aboveall, either Aristoteles or Plato succeeded not because a practical teacher butbecause an unpractical one.

Subsequently, the viewpoint that without working outside academic world we can also promoteeducation quality is best reinforced in the realm of contemporary physics. Considersome prominent physicists who changed our current life a lot. Heisenberg,1901~1970, a famers Germany physicist who uncovered the uncertainty principlewhich is one of the most vitally fundamental theory in the areas of quantum theory, also nurtured by a notable theoretic physicist Bohr who merely taught hisstudents with the methods of deduction and calculation. Thus we can seeimmediately that the quality of education at college and university doesn’tsubject to how practical the professors are.

Byand large, the speaker’s standpoint is overstatement at best and I firmlybelieve that in no circumstance shall we fully depend on working in practical wayto heighten the level of education. Consequently, there are various ways for usto increase the quality of education, be it hiring experienced professors, promoting facilities’ standards as well as providing sorts of curriculums forstudents to utilize. In the final analysis, then, I totally disagree with thespeaker’s partial standpoints.
