【i原文】After the passing of the new millenium, the Earth, may hardly recognize itself: the deserted land in the past now turn out to be mericular^ cities full of skyscrapers, living with thousands of, if not more, people. Even the language speaked are totally different from that used widespreadly in dramas of Shakespear.

Then comes the question, in the novel-new world, is the understanding of the past still can guide us toward the future, as it usually does? The answer seems simple, "Yes" or "No". However, the guidance, in reality, depends on the level of understanding of the past.

When the understanding of the history stay on the surface, it will not guide, but
mislead us in the Byzantine^ of current complex world. As the world is changing faster than our imagination, the experience of our ancestors seems useless. Because the guidance of the experience of the past mainly rely on the conditions, especially the environment. If someone are willing to the instruction of the past, he, or she, has to find the same environment as the instruction was generated.Unfortunately,everything you,a modern resident, have to face is strange, letting alone your ancestors. So if one unlucky person's understanding of the past remain on this level, just following the experience of the past, he, or she ,are doomed to fail. Then we hear the crying and the complaint that "So much is new and complex today that looking back for an understanding of the past provides little guidance for living in the present, except misleading".

However, when the understanding of the past develop into a higher level, it will provide guidance not only to individual, but also to the field, even the whole society.

As
living, not only we human, even normal animal, there is no denying that we ourselves, is marked by the history. Every cell of our body, contains the essence of our ancerstors, enable them surviving the natural election and countless disasters. These essence will tell how to deal with the new and complex world, as they have told our ancerstors. In addtion, the wisdom hidden in our costoms, ethics, laws and so forth, are worthwhile to digging, which will preparing us better for the precedent challenges of the new age.

To the field, the understanding of the past also offer invaluable suggestions,because the understanding of the history of the development of the field can tell us the natural rules of the field, as well as some clue to the direction of the future, and the overlooking or mistake of our ancestors, which will pose paramount effect on the development of field. For example, the understanding of the history of Europe shows a impetus to the unity of the Europe and many failure examples of reaching the goal by aggression, such as Napoleon and Hitler. With the wisdom absorbed in the understanding of the past, in order to evading the same mistakes, the presidents of European countries fulfill the unaccomplished task, leading the Europe to the integration of power and wealth.

On the other hand, in the complex age, the guidance of understanding of the past becomes complex as the age. The guidance is not the only element we should consider. For example, in order to make an decision of great importance, a manager may choose to get a better understanding of the history. However, the cost of the process of understanding surpass the benefit of the guidance, such as failing to make a decision before the deadline. So, we should deliberate its guidance and other relevant elements.


In conclusion, the guidance of the understanding of the history depends on the level of understanding. The low level may mislead person, while higher level, provide invaluable guidance to not only person but also the field, even the society. At last, as the complexity of the current environment, we should deliberate all the elements, including the guidance of the understanding of the past. (766)
