I-56"Governments should focus more on solving the immediate problems of today rather than trying to solve the anticipated problems of the future."

WORDS: 596
Both current and future problems are urgently threatening human beings. Yet as leaders of the society, governments have limited energy and resources. Then the question is: should the government take immediate problems as emphasis and pay less attention to the long-term threats, as is claimed by the quotation above? As far as I am concerned, the two kinds of problems are equally important and neither of them should be neglected, but considering the governments’ partiality to challenges facing us nowadays, they should care more about the coming threats tomorrow.

It is true that immediate problems, such as environment pollution, food supply shortage, and AIDS, are tough to cope with. Fortunately, governments all over the world have more than realized the challenging situation, but also tried to seek for global cooperation to solve these problems. With the help of far-reaching media, educational organizations, and environmental protection associations, governors makes the environmental protection awareness deep into each citizen’s heart. Even a kindergarten kid has realized littering is uncivilized. Similarly, policies have been carried out to conserve farming lands, and researches on more productive crops have been funded by governments. Also, genetic study aiming at curing AIDS is performing under the cooperation of various governments. In short, all ranks of people have joined the cause of solving immediate problems and this kind of cooperation has gone into the right direction, largely due to governmental enforcement.

However, it is not so lucky for the anticipated future problems, which are more significant but less concentrated by governments. I have to point out that future challenges, like energy shortage, climate abnormality, and space threaten, are scientifically reasonable, but rather produced by imagination. Some scientists have realized the urgency to solve these problems. Yet, without sufficient financial and policy support from the government, they could only labor forward slowly. Some others may argue that these problems are merely unwarranted anxiety and governments should save the money to immediate problems. Mind you! It is cheaper to fix these future challenges than to ignore them. Take, for instance, the climate disaster described in the movie- The Day after Tomorrow. Tornadoes ravaged Los Angeles; flood and ice make New York a dead city; even the books- representative of human civilization- could only be burned for warm. What is more, the US president was warned about the coming of the disaster, but he ignored the scientist’s words. If governments continue to seldom focus on future problems, they are undoubtedly bringing the movie into reality.

Furthermore, the exploration to future problems could pave the way for human’s long-term development, which is one of governors’ responsibilities. While moving forward with great effort, we should also look far into future for the right direction; or we will pay expensively. To some extent, certain immediate problems nowadays were directly caused by governments’ failure in anticipated future problems. If the forbiddance of deforestation was on the top of governments’ list fifty years ago, we might not be so anxious about desertification, decrease of farmland, and food shortage nowadays. What is more, the pre-attention for future problems could also benefit our offspring. It is selfish and irresponsible to focus merely on current development but care little about future situation. Suppose nowadays we use up coal and oil resources without discovering alternative energy, how could the coming generations survive?

In conclusion, current problems have gain enough attention from both the government and the public, while anticipated future problems are at the quite opposite position. Considering the public’s little consciousness about and incapability in solving long-term challenges, governments should pay more attention to these problems.

Also, genetic study aiming at curing AIDS is performing under the cooperation of various governments. In short, all ranks of people have joined the cause of solving immediate problems and this kind of cooperation has gone into the right direction, largely due to governmental enforcement. 【各国政府已经着手处理当前事物,并联合国际组织共同完成】

Yet, without sufficient financial and policy【political】 support from the government, they could only labor forward slowly. Some others may argue that these problems are merely unwarranted anxiety and governments should save the money to immediate problems. Mind you! It is cheaper to fix these future challenges than to ignore them. Take, for instance, the climate disaster described in the movie- The Day after Tomorrow. What is more, the US president was warned about the coming of the disaster, but he ignored the scientist’s words. If governments continue to seldom focus on future problems, they are undoubtedly bringing the movie into reality.【以电影举例,是新颖,不过会不会效果比真实的差点,现在现实已经有这样的恶果出现,列出来好一些】

【好像与上一自然段论述的都是不顾长远利益的代价啊】

In conclusion, current problems have gain enough attention from both the government and the public, while anticipated future problems are at the quite opposite position. Considering the public’s little consciousness about and incapability in solving long-term challenges, governments should pay more attention to these problems.
