According to the statement , the speaker advocate that the government should put less limits on scientific research and development. I totally agree with this idea. The scientific research make great progress of the society, the government should give them more freedom.
First of all, the government have all kinds of politicians but no scientists, they know little about the field of science, and when concerning the scientific issues they may expose their desire for creating more profit. But this may decrease the scientists studying for math, geography, archeology and other subject which will create less profit. The balance of the scientific area may broken. Even though the scientific field which can produce much profit, the government's intervention would increase the scientists' stress or threaten them for the failure. These actions make the relationship between scientists and politicians worse, this phenomenon makes no good for either aspect.
Secondly, the less restriction government place on scientific research, the more attentive the scientists would be. If the government give them less limit and more money support, the research would goes more influent. For example, in 2003, the SARS disease attacked the people in Asian, especially in China. Because the virus is first found and there is no antidote for the new disease. The Chinese government give the scientist the greatest freedom to do researches, finally after experiments on volunteers, the scientists testify their success in creating antidote for SARS.
Last but not the least, the government may felt unsafely for the wondering whether the scientist create something may do harm to the society. This concern is necessary, but in my view, the government should pay more attention on what purpose the research produced for. Generally speaking, all desire for doing scientific research are good. But with the improper method, science may become friend of evil. For example, as we all know, nuclear energy is an effective energy, people can use it to make light. But if some businessmen sell them to the black market, they may use it to make weapons and will increase the numbers of war.
In sum, the government should give the scientists more freedom to do there research because the key point lies in the people who are in charge of the new technic. The government should pay more attention to the use of the scientific research instead of the research themselves. |
