With the globlization of economy, so many other problems, such as poverty, starvation, education, recial conflicts etc. are becoming increasingly hot topic among people around the world, which inplys they are also globlizing. Thus, something must be done to stop this tendency and solve these social problems. So I totally agree we should establish a certain institution to enroll some people specializing in the problems and countries all over the world are all responsible for this process. However, whether the institution is a globle university, or whether the plan is practical is still open to doubt.
As we all know, university is a place for students to learn some knowledge to prepare for their future. Also, in this way, they can be taught some persistent social problems. But will these problems be accepted? Although university students have already grown up, mostly in their age, should their minds be mature enough, too, to understand so complex the society. It is not to deny most students in university, almost aged from 18 to 22 (or 27 if he/she continue his/her PHD), are aggressive, which make them cannot view a problem in an objective perspective. When faced with some social problems, they are more likely to deal with them without a further thought, and then make mistakes. For example, if a student encountered a religious defiance, it must
not be easy easy for him to calm down, pretending nothing had happened, he may show his different opinion in a nit friendly way even in class, worsely, he may fight and leave the school. But if he/her cannot control his/her emotion like this, how can he/her deal with complex problems, more complex than this kind of thing? Universities have duty to help students to be mature, but should by a relatively moderate way. Otherwise, students are likely to lose their direction, even go to the opposite.
What’s more, we need to take into account whether university students have the ability to deal with those persistent social problems. After all, they are too young to have the ture experience, the only way can they get some information is through internet or simply books. Again, as a result, their thoughts are not comprehensive or profound, although they are active enough to come up with new ideas, to meet the need of reality.
So as far as I am concerned, it is more practical to build a institution, gathering experts around the world to do research of social problems. As for univesity students, colleges can offer some relative courses for them to known more about these kind of things if they want and have the desire to specialize in this field.
Additionaly, while we all want to find solutions to these persistent social problems, we can not lose sight of a fact that social problem in different zones are also different. For example, the conflicts between Pakistan and Isreal are attributed to religion; the contradiction North Korea is facing is because of nuclear weapons; or some countries are tortured by poverty, famine, and maybe HIVA. Without deep understanding of such problems, no efficient solutions can be made. Consequently, I suggest building variety institutions for different kinds of problems, such as religion, racial conflicts, poor etc., to attract different experts to try their best to make contributions to our social preblems.
In sum, as the society is becoming more and more developed, at the same time, we should pay more attention to the increasing social problems, only in this way can way create a brighter and happier future.
