ISSUE 11
All nations should help support the development of a global university designed to engage students in the process of solving the world's most persistent social problems.

The speaker recommended that all nations should help establish a global university aimed to solve the world's most persistent social problems.  Kind as he is, his suggestion is indeed idealistic, and lack of practicablity in my view, because the speaker failed to take the details into consideration.

A global university, designed to solve the world's most persistent social problems, resembles the "Utopia" described by Thomos More. For reasons, initially, it is the true nations share multiples social problems: take ethic depravity, unemployment, drug abuse, hunger, and theft for instance.  However, what must be pointed out is the different priority among these common problems between the poor and the rich nations.  In Africa, for example, it is quite natural for the leaders there to set perishing the hunger as their first priority, while unemployment and drug abuse might catch more attention in those developed western countries.  Furthermore, I really doubt the necessity for those African nations to support such a program instead of dealing with the famine and health issues on their lands.  Secondly, holding the belief that a global university can solve those tough social problems is no more than a daydream.  Admittedly, university is a good place for persons to have brain storms, change their views, and spread their theory.  Nevertheless, we should keep in mind: theories alone cannot deal with any practical problems, especially those social persistent problems. They actually require lots of practical training. Therefore, I really doubt whether those well-trained graduates of global university can contribute to solving these social problems.

Besides, lots of practicable problems float when we further consider establishing such a university.  Culture indifference came as the first problem.  Since it is a global university, students with various backgrounds and regions will study and live together.  It is quite easy for them to conflict with each other on those sensible issues: homosexuality, nationalism and so forth.  Besides, which language should be used in the classroom and also the textbook?  Will it cause paronomasia? Also, where should the global university be build, and who gives the money?  All of these problems should be considered carefully, or it might lead to an international dispute.

Although the suggestion--all nations should support the development of a global university solving the world's most persistent social problems—is not that mature, the idea it carries should be encouraged.  That is all nations should make a joint venture on common social issues.  Thanks to the rapid developing IT technology, internet has made the cross-national talks and online education possible.  Hence, a virtual global university might be a good choice in the future.

To sum up, owing to the unreality and unpracticability mentioned above, it is unwise to establish a global university targeting to solve the world's most persistent social problems in current situation. However, a campaign of building a digital global university supported by those affluent nations might be a good alternative.

The speaker recommended that all nations should help establish a global university aimed to solve the world's most persistent social problems.【改写的不错】  Kind as he is,【独立主格】 his suggestion is indeed idealistic, and lack of practicablity practicabilityin my view, because the speaker failed to take the details into consideration.

paronomasia
