题目：ISSUE50 - "In order to improve the quality of instruction at the college and university level, all faculty should be required to spend time working outside the academic world in professions relevant to the courses they teach."

In recent years, a widely accepted viewpoint claims that it is necessary to force all employees of colleges and universities to take some work outside the academic world
which is relevant to the courses they teach. Although I'm pleased with the feeling of being a critic, I would rather to stand on the opposite of this point of view and reckon that the price may be too high to afford if our professors put too much emphasis on works outside the school.

First of all, I have to concede that as we are living in such a highly developped society, a college employee who is good at nothing but reading books or doing experiments in his own major can hardly serve as an effective professor, for it is a mission impossible for us to find a studying subject that has no relation with other fields. In addition, as a college is a relatively self-governed organization rather than common companies, many college teachers may find their lives a little bit boring for the lack of competition. If they get the opportunity to walk out of the schoolyard, the rapid speed of the society may have some encouraging effort on them when they realize that they might be eliminated by the society if they stop improving themselves continuously.

Nevertheless, it is unreasonable for college faculty to emphasize works outside the university thereby overlook their original jobs. Admittedly their working ability may be improved through the progress of working outside the academic world, we do not have the right to command every university worker to sacrifice their personal time to take extra works. On the other hand, if we ask them to take out a part of their normal job time to work outside the school, their students may hence be dissatisfied as it is hard for them to find a person to answer their quesions, for their professor's office is always empty.

At last, even if a proposal does have advantages in some aspects, we have to consider different conditions before making a decision. In another world, we had better offering advice rather than announcing commands. Some college teachers may not be so discontent about extra works outside the academic world originally, but they would feel that they are not respected at all if we choose to make decisions for them without asking their own opinions, which can not be beared for the majority of people. As every individual in this world is equal to each other, mutual respection is indispensible if we want to do things fluently

To sum up, even if working outside the academic world actually have some beneficial influence for a portion of college faculty, each professor is suppose to have the right of choosing an appropriate way to improve his quality of instruction by himself.
