Do you agree or disagree newspaper is the best way of learning about a foreign country?
Have you ever go abroad for further education or finding a job? If you never experienced, you will never truly understand some aspect in foreign country such as what will they do when some festivals coming, which food they usually eat and how many people are there in the family? Thus, reading newspaper, in my opinion, is not the best way of learing about a foreign country, living in what country you want to know is better than it.
The primary cause that stands by my veiw is that we can take part in the activities which hold by foreign people and feel these atmosphere deeply. For example, I was so fortunately to celebrate Halloween with local people when I was in America. The auspicious feeling haunt me from time to time, which comes from the naughty children wore festive costumes and asked for candies. Meanwhile, we also sit around in a circle sharing stories about ghost, dead people and some strange things. Only when I experienced the “trick-and-treat” tradition, can I truly realized how funny the festival is. However, the newspaper never bring me such a feeling, because I just gain some massages and image the situation in the festival. It sometimes let me feel boring and easy to forget after reading it.
Further leading credence to my position is the fact that it is more convenient to get information about foreign country where you live there. By communicating with local people, we can achieve information as soon as possible. In addition, if I want to know life about American students, I could just enter a university and make friends with them. Thus, you can get what you want by living there. On the contrary, newspaper, always gives as some certain information because its content is decided by editor. When I want to know which food American like to eat in summer, there just have an article about how to cook American food. Seldom can I get the information I want in a newspaper.
Admittedly, this is not the whole story. Sometimes we have to gain knowledge about foreign country from newspaper on account of financial shortage. We can, However, widen our mind from reading it. Nevertheless, this is not the best way to learning, living in a foreign country is better, owing to its reality and convenience. Therefore, I disagree with the above statement that newspaper is the best way to learning a foreign country. |
