Some people believe that students should be given one long vacation each year. Others believe that students should have several short vacations throughout the year. Which viewpoint do you agree with? Use specific reason and examples to support your choice.

It seems that students are all in favor of a long vacation after tiring and boring study. They can do whatever they want to when they at school, and thus leave school issues behind. When they go back to school, they might have forgotten all the stuffs they picked up at school, before the long vacation. So, based on this point, I would prefer to provide the students with some short and set vacations between periods of studies.

To begin with, having a short vacation after at the end of some certain period of learning activities, it gives the students a good opportunity to revise what they have learnt and deal with teachers' assignments. As research in educational psychology shows that people often tend to
be evaluated by some criteria after learning something new. So, we should leave some time for students to practice and test what they studied in the school, in this sense, having a short vacation is a good choice.

In addition, frankly speaking, studying for a long time will make learners feel bored and tired, there will be little interest on it. Having short vacation let students relax and entertain themselves. During this period, they can have enough sleep, wacthing TV, do some sports and go travelling with family or friends. Moderate relaxing can get students refreshed again, thus, they focus their attention on the stuffs.

What's more important is that everyone has their own hobby or interest, they can develop their hobbies in this lesuire time, which they are too busy to attend to
. Some one may like making plane model, but often he is engaged in in the study activiy , this is also not his subject provided by school. If he has a short vacation, he can feel at ease to deal with the issue.

Someone may refute me that one can do all the things above during the long vacation. 'YES, they can', I do agree with this point. But, we know students are all youth, they are not able to control themselves successfully, so they only can do this for a short time. Besides, if the vacation is too long, there will be a similar phenomenon just like that mentioned at the beginning of this page.
