1: In September 12, 2010, I took Internet Based Testing (iBT) in Shantou University in China. I went to the test center in the morning at 9 o’clock. The invigilator didn’t announce the Examination Regulations and inform us what shouldn’t put in the supply closet and what should put out of the supply closet. So, I put my bag (there is a laptop in it), notebook and snacks in the supply closet outside the test room in a hurry, which made the supply closet full of my stuff.

After took the reading section and listening section, I went out the test room to have a break. Then I opened my supply closet and want to take my snacks out, however, as soon as I opened the supply closet, my notebook dropped out from the supply closet. I picked up the notebook and put it back to my supply closet, at the same time, the invigilator went out the test room, warned me that I shouldn’t open the supply closet without his admission and confiscated my notebook. I gave the notebook to the invigilator as soon as he noticed me. Because I really hungry, I asked the invigilator again to open my supply closet for my snacks. The invigilator allowed me to eat my snacks.

After the whole test had been taken over, I was so happy at that time because I thought I can get a good score and I don’t think I breach the examination regulations. But the invigilator asked me to write a statement in Chinese about the event and tell me he would report it to ETS. I am confused about the accident that I didn’t specify what happened at that time. After having written the statement and handed over it, the invigilator didn’t say anything to but just let me go.


2: I was starting from Zhuhai, a city far from Shantou University, September 11 until the evening arrived at the Shantou University. The notebook is just for me to prepare for the exam during the trip since it is a 7 hours long trip and I don’t want to waste the precious time.

In September 12, 2010, the weather is so bad in the morning that I was drenched, so I was so nervous and I am very difficult to put all my stuff in my supply closet in a hurry. It was my first time to take the Internet Based Testing (iBT), so I really didn’t know I can’t open the break since the invigilator had never announced us we shouldn’t opened the supply closet. In addition, I had taken so many tests in China and we really can eat our snacks during the break.

As I didn't take breakfast in the morning, I was so hungry after having taken the reading section and listening section. I opened my supply closet just want to take my snacks out. The notebook dropped out from the supply closet which is unpredictable, because my supply closet is so small to accommodate all my stuff.

Admittedly, I picked up the notebook which dropped out from the supply closet, but I just intended to put it back to my supply closet. I had never thought to access the notebook during my break. After having taken the test, I had to I rushed to the station to back to Zhuhai, which either took me 7 hours. So, I had no time to explain to the invigilator clearly.

3: I know that Internet Based Testing (iBT) is an impartial test which can testify my English proficiency. So I study sedulously for 11 months to prepare for it. I absolutely know I need to take the test honestly. My parents usually taught me honesty is the fundamental of life. In my stage of university study and senior high school study, I always prepare hard for my exam and never cheated in any exam. Dear officials could check my university to know my credit history. I took Internet Based Testing for a better future study in a foreign country, so I would not cheat in the test which is contrary to my moral.

I'm so sorry that such accident happened on me and gave you a problem, whereas, I didn't mean to access the notebook since the notebook only dropped out by accident. I expected dear officials could give me an equitable judgment.

I have  to make 3 points of clarifications about my IBT that day：
1.I was never tolded about the test regulations by any of the invigilator before the exam. Thus, I didn't know what should I do with my food so I just put them in my closet. Even though I read the Policies and Procedures on Registration Bulletin carefully, no specsific rules was about food. And as far as I knew later, test takers are allowed to take food in the break time in many other test sites in China. Invigilators will make proper instruction and announce the test regulations before tests in those sites. Unfortunatel, no such instructions was made in my IBT that day.
2. The event happened that day was an accident, it was not my purpose to watch the notes, instead, I just wanted to take out my food from the closet. However, to many things were there in my box and the note just slipped out accidentlly. I believe the invigilators didn't catch this point at all.
3.I did make explainations about the accident after the exam, however, there no responce from the invigilators. This was also the point that I couldn't accept because my words appeared to be all hot air to those invigilators.
In a word, I took everything no more than the food from my box that day. Besides, I think it is the invigilator who should to blame (at least he should be partly responsible for the event) since he made no proper instructions and lead to the accident. The situation now is unacceptable to both you ETS and I. So I hope you ETS can make a throughout investigaton and give me proper explaination!
