9The following appeared in a memorandum from a dean at Omega University.

"Fifteen years ago, Omega University implemented a new procedure that encouraged students to evaluate the teaching effectiveness of all their professors. Since that time, Omega professors have begun to assign higher grades in their classes, and overall student grade averages at Omega have risen by thirty percent. Potential employers apparently believe the grades at Omega are inflated; this would explain why Omega graduates have not been as successful at getting jobs as have graduates from nearby Alpha University. To enable its graduates to secure better jobs, Omega University should now terminate student evaluation of professors."

1.No proof is provided as to potential employers' belief in Omega's grades inflation.
1)The high grades don't reflect the graduates' practical ability, Alpha graduates might show more practical skills.
2)Graduates from other Alpha University get even higher grades.
3)Omega university is not as famous as Alpha University.

1. Procedure交待不明。未告知是否匿名,参加学生的人数/比例,评价结果等。所以我们不能推断出P和higher grades是有关系的。
2. 作者消极看待了evaluation与grade的关系。Evaluation可以有positive effect。(学生更加关注教师,教师更加认真,学校的教学可以有效调节等)
3. 作者不合理假设了evaluation导致了higher grades,而非其他原因。(生源、考试难度、师资水平上升,整个地区的教育水平提高等)
4. 作者把O学生就业没有A学生好归因于inflated grades是欠考虑的。(没有证据显示employer在招人时把分数放在重要位置上;没说明A学生的grade水平及其他情况;没有说明A和O找到哪种层次的工作[successful的标准是什么?]);可能O的学生更多得选择了继续深造而非就业 等等。
5. A和O可能没有可比性。
6. 结论(停止评教)可能带来坏的影响,同时作者忽略了其他提高就业率的手段。
