1、全国统计不代表地方
2、报纸销量大小有疑问,居民买杂志可能只为消遣
3、增加种类Vs扩大数量

Considering a nationwide dissatisfaction of the quality of fresh vegetables and the fact that the Gardening magazine Great Gardens has sold out three months in a row at the Village News Stand, the writer advise the owner of Green Thumb Gardening Center to greatly expand the variety of vegetable seeds in stock for gardeners this coming spring to increase profits. However, we find the evidence provided by the writer is not supportive of the recommendation he made.

Firstly, the nationwide dissatisfaction towards supermarket vegetables is not a sure indicator that this is the same in this area. Perhaps the vegetables sold at local markets are of good qualities and the residents don’t have to grown their own. Besides, past experience tells us that subjective intentions are often limited by objective conditions. Even if we have a garden and really want to grow our own vegetables, we may still be disappointed to find that we don’t have enough time and energy after an exhausted working day. So this evidence is not persuasive enough.

Secondly, the mere fact that a Gardening magazine has sold out at a local news stand three months in a row is not convincible either. Without informing us the exact number of copies sold per month, we can safely assume that only ten copies are purchased by local residents every month. If that is the case, gardening is not that popular locally as the writer implied. Even the local circulation is a relatively large one, the writer fails to rule out the possibility that people may buy the magazine just for recreation, with no intention to grow some vegetables. A lot of buy books and magazines about foreign countries, this doesn’t mean they will actually go aboard, they just read them for fun.

Finally, even if many residents will grow their own vegetables this coming spring, the writer’s suggestion to expand the variety of vegetables rather than increase the quantity of them is open to question. If the variety of vegetables is already diverse enough to satisfy to the needs of local residents, there will be no need to follow the writer’s recommendation.

To sum up, this argument is not well-reasoned, as the writer failed to take many factors into consideration. Perhaps, the writer could improve it by providing a more detailed survey about the local residents’ opinions about growing vegetable.
