Issue 15 "The stability of a society depends on how it responds to the extremes of human behavior."

How a society responds to the extremes of human behavior is indeed highly associated with its stability and thus sustained prosperity, but one shouldn’t lay undue emphasis upon it and expect too much of it. That is because that for any society, its real and sustained stability does not origin from how it cope with extreme behaviors, but from how successful it can create a healthy social environment which conduces to preventing and reducing the occurrence of extreme behaviors.

But what are the sources of social stability? Generally, two factors are most intrinsically crucial to guaranteeing this goal. First and foremost, the society must maintain a stable and sustained economic growth, and make sure that the employment, retirement pension, and some other critical social concerns rooted in economic growth are well in order. For any person, what is of the first-rate importance is sustenance. Without it, democracy, science, art, sport and almost all other things will entirely lose their meaningful. The reason is very straightforward: one couldn’t do academy or play footfall without eating foods for days. But in reality, it is always inevitable that there are some social members frustrating in making a living. And ensuing these frustrations is crime, suicide and many other extreme actions. One authority on suicide has pointed out that, contrary to what most people believed, suicide was much more likely a social behavior rather than an individual one. Its real sources could almost always be traced back to economic failures. And the suicide cases as a result of emotional frustrations were really rare. This was why a long recession was always accompanied with a peak of suicides and many other social unrests. Therefore, if the economy of the society is utterly in a state of disorder and gloom and couldn’t overcome it as soon as possible, the society will no longer maintain its stability, no matter how it responds to the extremes.

The another source of sustained stability of the society is democracy. That democracy can create stability is in the similar way of the attaining of the family harmony. If a family has a healthy air of democracy and every member has the right of free speech, it will become very easy for the family members to come to accordance in almost all problems, and thus no extreme behaviors such as family violence, juvenile delinquency will emerge. By contrast, if the father is acting as a dictator in the family, violently suppressing any different ideas and behaviors, perhaps this family could keep an ostensible peace temporarily, but underground resistances will be taken correspondingly by other members: children will linger all days in the streets and become more susceptible to crimes; the wife will have to resort to divorcement. When the resentments accumulate to a critical degree, the family will inevitably step into collapse. To a large extent, the function of democracy in keeping stability of the society is similar to that in family: though this society is filled with disagrees and disputes on the surface, it can escape from violent social extreme behaviors, providing sustained and real stability.

Furthermore, economic growth and democracy added together will create advantageous conditions for the society to deal with extremes of human behaviors. The more developed the economy, the more resources the society can allocated for dealing with the extreme behaviors. The more advanced the democracy, the more likely the society can cultivate a efficient law system to deal with the extreme behaviors. Obviously, how a society responds to the extremes of human behavior depends on its economy and its degree of democracy.

Therefore, it is the economic growth and democracy that guarantee the real and long-term stability of society. As for how the society responds to the extreme behaviors, its role is just to provide some necessary conditions favorable to the stability, far from to guarantee the stability. (642 words)

Issue 15 "The stability of a society depends on how it responds to the extremes of human behavior."

How a society responds to the extremes of human behavior is indeed highly associated with its stability and thus sustained prosperity, but one shouldn’t lay undue emphasis upon it and expect too much of it. That is because that for any society, its real and sustained stability does not origin from how it cope with extreme behaviors, but from how successful it can create a healthy social environment which conduces to preventing and reducing the occurrence of extreme behaviors.(观点很好,但要定义好什么时extreme behaviors)

(这是你对extreme behavior的定义吧)One authority on suicide has pointed out that, contrary to what most people believed, suicide was much more likely a social behavior rather than an individual one. 似乎极端行为指的是暴力行为,尤其是自杀

The another source of sustained stability of the society is democracy. That democracy can create stability is in the similar way of the attaining of the family harmony. If a family has a healthy air of democracy and every member has the right of free speech, it will become very easy for the family members to come to accordance in almost all problems, and thus no extreme behaviors such as family violence, juvenile delinquency will emerge.另一角度的定义 By contrast, if the father is acting as a dictator in the family, violently suppressing any different ideas and behaviors, perhaps this family could keep an ostensible peace temporarily, but underground resistances will be taken correspondingly by other members: children will linger all days in the streets and become more susceptible to crimes; the wife will have to resort to divorcement. When the resentments accumulate to a critical degree, the family will inevitably step into collapse. To a large extent, the function of democracy in keeping stability of the society is similar to that in family这个引申把例子和论题结合起来: though this society is filled with disagrees and disputes on the surface, it can escape from violent social extreme behaviors, providing sustained and real stability.

(642 words)
