Today, lots of people believe that as researchers or scholars, they can freely develop their own minds and pursue their individual interests in an ideal way. However, I don't quite agree with this point. As a component of the whole society, every person should do some jobs that benefit the society, in return for what they have got from the society. So, it is more important that scholars and researchers make contributions to the larger society that once nurtured them, than that they pursue their own interests.

In the first place, the work of scholars and researchers should be meaningful and useful to the society, so that it is more sustainable.
If one's research work is beneficial to the larger society, it will be put more focus by the public, win more respect, and thus it is more justifiable to acquire more research support, especially research funds.（易得到关注及支持） In most universities and academies, one may find that research fund is necessary to the final result of research work, and is even crucial to the achievement in some research areas, especially scientific fields. We can imagine （see）that if a professor of chemistry doesn't have enough funds for importing key experimental equipments, the experiments are probably prone to be a failure in the last. In other fields, like art, political, economic areas, research support of all kinds is also considered as one of the significant factors that contributes to the overall capability of one's research work. Without research support, one can hardly make a progress in a big research area, at least from a psychological view. Consequently, （verse visa）if one's work contributes to the society, great advantage is likely to be brought to the researcher and thus his work will be more sustainable(用过), which is a bidirectional benefit.

Second of all, nowadays more research subjects are application driven. By application driven, I mean, those subjects are more focused on applying to the actual products, such as daily goods and commodities, consumer electronics and so on, which are more likely to be welcomed by the public. （By application driven, what?）If something doesn't have a market demand, it can rarely turn to the products that are beloved by our society. So, when it comes to the choice of one's career, scholars and researchers should be aware of the fact that practical applications and products are what the society like. Kai-Fu Lee, vice president of Google once upon a time,(former vice president of Google) chose to become a research and development executive at Apple Computer rather than keep as an assistant professor at CMU two years after getting his Ph.D. diploma. (也许应更简略介绍)What he said was that he wanted to develop more products for the society rather than do pure paper researches. Hence, it is a wise decision for researchers to choose application-oriented work than pure research.

Last but not least, it is yet unfair to exclude all the possibilities that developing one's own research interests has no good. Admittedly, there are still some kinds of research which doesn't have immediate profit for the society, but for the long run, it can be profound. Let's take the example of the history of finding nature's law, in which Newton and Einstein are regarded as two giants of current physics world, but not any influential people in their time at all, especially the time when they do researches. Once upon a time, when Einstein made the speech concerning relativity at German science academy, no one could understand him, not to mention（let alone） any sign that it will be useful to the society. However, after their research year, too many praises are given by the public. Thus, these areas(areas kind like these), though unusual and even inscrutable, are to have profound influence in the future.

In conclusion, we should advocate that what scholars and researchers concern will have more advantages if it is beneficial to the society and applicable to the real products, while we should also emphasize that a minor part of scientists can do some unusual researches in light of their interests.
