TOPIC: ISSUE106 - "All students should be required to take at least one course in ethics, even if taking the course means a decreased emphasis on academic subjects."

We are hurt and benefit by the science, because we put the some academic subjects in the right places and abuse some academic subjects. So whether academic subjects contribute to the society depends on the ethics knowledge, and teaching is one of the best ways to increase the knowledge. Thus, I basically agree with the author’s view, with some differences about freedom.

If courses of ethics are not taken, ethics are not concerned, students will grow up unbalanced. Nowadays, more and more reports about criminals in school appear in media, such as a girl killed herself in Xian Technology University, a man from the country kill a student of Xian architecture Technology University. This is a bad phenomenon. These young dudes are not well educated and not rose right, which means the school and their parents should take the blame. Suppose that they are told to cherish their own lives and others', will these tragedies happen? Not only young men need ethics teaching, grown-up students also need this kind of education. Some people may say that ethics is something we are born with, thus they would not bother with the lessons. This is the bad faith. Doing the right thing in the right time as divine, is an ethical thing we need to learn, not born. However, we need to learn a lot of things about it not from only our teachers, but also from our parents, friends. This is to say, reading the book let you know the right thing to do, and learning from your parents or friends is also an necessary way. So a course about ethics is necessary for the student.

Taking the course does not have to mean a dropping emphasis on students' main studies or researches. Scientists have already given the conclusion that human can hardly do one thing in their lifetime. For example, if John is an expert of physics, he is not able to think the problem about physics all the time, he will think about other things, and when he think about other things, he would better think something about ethics, which is important. Even if the emphasis is decreased, the total effect will be better than concentrating on the academy. If John pushes himself hardly to think over his academy and do his research, he may invent a great tool like the lamp invented by Edison, but he can hardly use his invention properly. Without the ethics, technology may be the disaster of the human being. There is an old saying: sharpening your axe will not hold up your work of cutting firewood. There should be a lot of questions you should answer to yourself before do something, such as: Is this thing harmful for the human? Make yourself ready before work, be cautious, quiet, brave, and so on. If not, 'of the world we all in will soon all be sold to the throne of evil paid with Lucifer's gold.'(Versed by Halloween, rock and roll band)

Last but not the least, even if ethics is important and should be learned by the students, should the students be required to learn it? This thing is complex, we are born to be free to learn and not to learn, but we are not born to be aware of ethics. Schools should not push the students too hard to learn any thing, even if it is important, however, there are a lot of ways to let them learn, not compulsory. For example, honor the good students who have know the ethics and do things right, or let people know the importance of learning ethics.

Ethics and academy are the two important things on the different side of the scale, they should be balanced, especially in the schools, range from primary school to university.
when in doubt, take more math
