Whether we could tell much about one's attitudes and interests from the way he looks, dresses, and acts, or even could deduce the ideas and values of the whole society by observing most people's appearance and behavior. The author claims so. As the initial thought when finish reading the statement, we need to discriminate the proposition in a systematical and comprehensive way. In a certain sense, I partly the author's opinion as the appearance and behavior can reflect one's character and property. However, a much more noticeable thesis could be raised that one's appearance and behavior can be deceive when trying to probe other's attitudes and interests. Due to this possibility, when trying to figure out the whole society's ideas and values, only by observing the appearance and behavior of its people is not sufficient, we should put the culture, economic, history of the society in to consideration and view the ideas and values in a vision of globalization.

The ideas and values of someone is a standards when one person facing the occasion of judgments or choice. They are located in the bottom of heart, and could not be spied easily only through observing the appearance and behavior. However, ideas and values construct by the increasing of knowledge and accumulation of the life experience step by step, and then the knowledge and experience would definitely leave some prints or carve some symbols. These symbols which were mirrored into daily life is someone’s custom of dressing, behavior or even the way of looking. Thus, from this angle, traditional theory was challenged and attitudes and interests of one person could be possibly detected from the details of their habits.

Examples which could support the upper conclusion could be seen everywhere in daily life. For instance, a professor would never dress like a pop star, and also, a pop star with doctrine suit and tie would never be popular but to be laughed; comparing with normal person, policeman's look was always firm and alert. Moreover, in certain level, most people’s ideas and values which were probed by observing their appearance and behavior, could reflect the whole society's ideas and values. Using the dressing style of one society to exemplify the point is a proper choice. One society with diverse style of dressing is a kind of symbol that the society is tolerate to the diversification of culture, concepts, etc. In contrast, if the majority's dressing style is single and outdated, we can infer that at least the whole society is not open-minded.

However, the opinion raised by the author seems to be comprehensive but actually has a weak point existed which the appearance or the behavior of one person might be deceivable. People tend to cover their affections, habitual actions, etc; moreover, some people even pretend to have some customary look, dress or act in order to misguided people. These situations prevent us from telling much the whole society’s ideas and values by observing the appearance and behavior. To emancipate the strain and view the society in a comprehensive way, we should not forget the economics, culture, history, politics and trends of globalization of the society. These factors could represent the society from several view points. For example, the economics of the society could indicate the personal income which directly determines the values of the majority in the society; the history of society clarifies the formation of the ideas which is the basis to presume the future trend. Also, in contrast, the way of dressing could be no longer viewed as a characteristic symbol to judge the ideas and values nowadays, because the globalization has diminished the difference between the dressing fashions of diverse nations.
