40"Scholars and researchers should not be concerned with whether their work makes a contribution to the larger society. It is more important that they pursue their individual interests, however unusual or idiosyncratic those interests may seem."

The speaker asserts that schoolars and resreachers should persue whatever they are intereted in , without any concern with the influences to the large sociaty. to some extent the speaker overstates the frodom of researchers in their work ,and ignore the damages underneath.

The chief reason why scholars should pursue their individual interets is that they are motivated by human nature to do what they are interested in. for example, the astrophysicist Stephen Hawking to research the effectiveness of affirmative-action legislation in reducing workplace discrimination. The orientation of his research is based on his intereti form youth. In a way, lacking interest may influence the motivation of a scholar’s research in his or her “assigned” field.

Nevertheless, a scholar works on a subject ,he is interested in, may do harm to the society. For example, the inventation of the nuclear bomb is almost a disaster of human beings. And In the internet age, hackers become more and more arrogant and Their behaviors do big harmage to the public network. Admittedly ,this example board on hyperbole. Yet the fact that scholars can not persue willingfully what they are interested in.

In addition, making a contribution to the large scioty may be the motivation of some reseachers. It is usual in the field of science, especially in some developing countries . for example, the chinese agriculturist Yuan Nongping who is called “the father of hybrid rice”.
In the period of 60s in 20th centrery, many chinese were suffering from hungry. So the responsibility and motivation of a agriculturist is to find a method to increase the production of the rice. That is to say, some scholars and reseachers have the willing to contribute themselves to the society.

In sum, I agree that we should encourage scholars unfettered freedom of research. But what is more important, our scholars and reseachers should be kind-hearted and have a sense of responsibility to our society. On in this way, can our life will be better and interesting.

The speaker asserts that scholars and researchers should persue(pursue) whatever they are interested in , without any concern with the influences to the largelarger society. To some extent the speaker overstates the freedom of researchers in their work , and ignore the damages underneath.

The chief reason why scholars should pursue their individual interests is that they are motivated by human nature to do what they are interested in. For example, the astrophysicist Stephen Hawking to research the effectiveness of affirmative-action legislation in reducing workplace discrimination.(不成句,而且没有说到本质,应该是说SH在他的兴趣驱动下做这个看起来和他的本职无关的研究吧。建议:For example, the astrophysicist Stephen Hawking, who researches the effectiveness of affirmative-action legislation in reducing workplace discrimination, which attracts him a lot.) The orientation of his research is based on his interest form youth. In a way, lacking interest may influence the motivation of a scholar’s research in his or her “assigned” field.

Nevertheless, a scholar works on a subject ,he is interested in, may do harm to the society. Nevertheless, inappropriate interests may do harm to the society)For example, the invention of the nuclear bomb is almost a disaster of human beings. And In the internet age, hackers become more and more arrogant and their behaviors do big damage to the public network. 。。是作be based解吗) on hyperbole. Yet the fact that scholars can not pursue willingfully(willfully) what they are interested in.(总得来说,觉得这段的意思和例子都没有问题,但是论述得不太有力,最后一句的承接上和总结上不够到位,上一句是让步,这一句就应该有个转回来的承接,比如,Yet, it sheds a light upon that the unlimited freedom of scholars may lead to damage.

In addition, making a contribution to the large society may be the motivation of some researchers. It is usual in the field of science, especially in some developing countries . For example, the Chinese agriculturist Yuan Longping who is called “the father of hybrid rice”. In the period of 60s in 20th century, many Chinese were suffering from hungry. So the responsibility and motivation of a(an) agriculturist is to find a method to increase the production of the rice. That is to say, some scholars and researchers have the willing to contribute themselves to the society.

In sum, I agree that we should encourage scholars(scholars’) unfettered freedom of research. But what is more important, our scholars and researchers should be kind-hearted and have a sense of responsibility to our society. On(only?) in this way, can our life will be better and interesting.
