Government should place few, if any, restriction on scientific research and development

I agree to this assertion that government ought to restrict scientific development as less as possible. Government should offer material support and the right guidance of the applications of the research results.

To begin with, government`s restriction do nothing to help the scientists to find their answers. Scientific research determines the intellectual development and the knowledge about this world of mankind. To limit scientific research equals to slow down the pace of exploration of external physical and internal psychological world. To find the answers of those unanswered questions is a self-conscious act of every true scientist, so the restriction from his government is only play a negative role which prevents him from finding the truth. The government should offer material support to guarantee the research going well. For instance, in medieval when the exploration of outer space was disapproved ancestors spent a long hard time. And the pace of understanding universe was slow. Currently, almost every year we could see new discoveries which should owe to the material support and less restrictions on research. Even we may have some unpleasant results or some new inventions which may cause hazardous aftermath. These at least offer the knowledge of what is bad and should be forbidden and forward our understanding of this world.

Secondly, government`s restriction may sometimes be harmful to their people. Governments may represent the interests of ordinary people or especially in some African and Asian countries represent the minority. Their restriction on science could keep the scientist from finding a way to save their people. Some governments pay all the funds it can to support the invention of new weapon which at the same time restrict the development of other realm of researches. And the consequences of that is the appearance of new weapons which will kill more lives. This kind of government restricts the science benefiting lives and false guides the ones which leads to death.

Thirdly, although there are some new technologies which possibly cause disaster to our kind, the restriction or forbiddance is still not advocated. The nuclear power and clone technology which could be applied in wars and lead to ethnic problems, however, we should not restrict the research on this. As is known to everyone, the gas, coal, oil is not the reproductive resource, and after they run out, what should we use as power? Someone may advices to use water. But water is also often in a shortage. And the problems of Water-powered electricity station appeared decades ago, e.g. the Aswan. Nuclear power provide a great amount of energy without any pollution. If none of countries had explored the power of it, how could we know it? Technology itself is not blamed. The government should try its best to guide the application of science, but not to restrict the research.

In sum, as the restriction does not help and in some cases even leads to unpleasant aftermaths, I agree with the speaker that government should place few restrictions on scientific research an development. Technology and the inventing process should not be blamed. Government should guide their people to use the technology rationally and to restrict the hazardous application, but not the research.
