I totally agree with the speak that the way people look, dress, and act reveals their attitude and interests. Although we can know much about a society's ideas and values by observing the appearance and behavior of its people, we cannot wholely depend on that way.
It is certain that we can know people's attitudes and interests by studying the way they look, dress and act. Actually attitudes and interests reflect the people's thinking about life, thus they can have an effect on people's appearance and behavior. Let us look at it from different age groups.   For instance, the young generation love wearing T-shirt and jeans, they favor skateboard and hip-hop, which indicate that they are enjoying life and hold a random attitude toward life and do not concentrate on tiny things. The middle-aged dress tend to be well-dressed and formal, they work hard to take the responsibility of attending on their children and parents, so their attitude toward life is serious and practical. The old usually are in comfortable clothes and live freely. They have retired from work and can control their free time at their desire. In their free time, they like to play chess with their peers and take exercise regularly, indicating they are enoying their old age.
Admittedly, a society's ideas and values can reflect on the appearance and behavior of its people.  An apt illustration is as follows. In ancient China, women wear a lot of clothes even in summer and wrap their feet all the time. These phenomena infer that in those times the social idea is conservative. Besides,women are not allowed to express their own opinions while men are dicussing issues. This tells us that social value is unfair and discriminates women. In contrast, women in modern China has no limits in dressing, they can even wear suits. Their status is also equal with men, and even surpass the female in some fields. Great changes in social ideas and values have taken place.

But we cannot judge a society's ideas and values solely by observing the appearance and behavior of its people.I will explain it in two aspects in the predecent texts. On one hand, some one may take the appearance and behavior to cover their genuine purposes, as the appearance and behavior can be deceiving. These people include the spys. On the other hand, with the pace of globalization, young people around the world wear jeans and T-shirs, could we consider that the world just own the same interest and value? Of course not. Thus it is unwise for us to consider that the two groups of people own similar interests and values only by their same appearance and behaviors. There exist other means to cognize a society's  ideas and values, like through heros, through education system and so forth.
All in all, it is true that way people look, dress, and act reveals their attitude and interests,but we cannot judge a society's ideas and values solely by observing the appearance and behavior of its people.
