Thank you for your interest in the graduate program in the Communication Studies Department at the University of Texas at Austin. We had a large number of very qualified applicants, larger than previous years. We are sorry to say that we are unable to offer you a place in our program for Fall 2011. Please note decisions have been made for Interpersonal Communication applications only. The faculty members in the Organizational Communication and Rhetoric and Language Studies areas have not yet met to make admissions decisions.
If your application has been referred to the department by the Graduate and International Admissions Center (GIAC), then I have posted this decision and you can see it on the Application Status Check web page. If not, then GIAC is still processing your documents.
Please do not consider your not being admitted as a reflection of your qualifications. I suspect that I do not need to tell you that it is a very, very tight year for funds to support additional graduate students at many universities across the country and this is true for UT, Austin as well. For that reason, we have fewer slots for new graduate students and are not admitting as many students as we have in previous years. Another possible reason for not being admitted is that the faculty did not see a fit between what our faculty research and what you indicated as your research interest. It is also possible that your research interests matched a faculty member who for various reasons is unable to take on any new graduate students.

MA students, note that the Communication Studies Department at UT is a doctoral program that admits master’s students. (以前在它家官网上怎么从来没看到这句话）For that reason, your research interests were critically important to our faculty members.
