One of the best way for parents to help their teenage children prepare for adult life is to encourage them to take the part time job.

Coincident with the rapid growth of economy and technology, the competition becomes more and more fierce, which is quite obvious at the time when hunting for jobs. Faced with this growing competitions in the society, I strongly agree with the statement that it is one of the best way to encourage teenage children to take the part time job for their further adult life. It is true that there are other ways to achieve this goal, taking part time job is imperative for children to improve their understanding about the society, the ability of communicating with people, and get to know more about themselves better.

Someone may claim that other methods could improve children’s ability and prepare for their adult life. For instance, from reading, they could get to know the rules companies run and new technology they are using. And from talking to adults, such as their parents, they can get to know about what their behavior should be like when they enter into society, and which field they fit most. However, I don’t think this is sufficient for children to know deeply and profoundly how the society is and who they themselves are. So I emphasize the significance of taking a part time job, which could let children know more about the knowledge they should know from practice.

Through taking a part time job, it is easy to understand what the society is like, because we are inundating in society itself. It is much more straightforward to learn the knowledge of society just by jumping into the society. Take my own experience for example. I used to have an internship in a small company, Global Education, as a HR Training assistant. The motive and reason for me to apply for this position lie in the fact that I want to know what the society is. And I still remember clearly the words my boss said to me on my first day work there. He said, the society is quite different from school, which will protect you and forgive your mistakes. The society, or the company is so real that you may not accept, because for company, we pursue for benefits. If you failed to achieve the goal, you lose. This is the most important lesson I’ve ever had in society and I learned it from my own intern experience.

At the same time, through getting to know what the society is like, we can know more clearly about what I really want through part time job. In another word, we can know myself better. Again, I want to use the example mentioned above. After having internship in that company for like two months, I gradually getting to familiar with the process and routine of my daily work, and what HR’s main tasks and position in the whole company. And, I would also consider whether this kind of work suits me? I major in Literature in university, while my work in the company almost has no relation with my major. This feeling contradicts with my former thoughts, which is, I don’t want to do jobs related with my major. And after my internship in the company, I finally get to know what my heart really wants, that is, jobs that are related to literature. So although I quit my intern, I feel happy for myself because I really know what I want, so the aim is clear for my future.

Last but not least, through doing part time job, children’s communicating skill could be enhanced as well. In university, we meet our classmates and professors, who treat us well and won’t be strict with us. However, the behavior is very crucial when entering society. So before taking formal job, it is beneficial to take a part time job first and learn how to communicate and express ourselves better. From my experience, I becomes good at communicating with others and won’t be afraid of speaking in front of many person.

All in all, from the interpretation above, I can safely draw the conclusion that taking part time job is one of the best way for children to prepare for adult life, because it could provides us with more knowledge of society, and it lets us to know more about ourselves, and it also encourages us to be better communicators.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Has technology made children less creative than they were in the past.
. j8 }7 d: j& p5 K- z) ]) t

It is always debatable as to the issue that whether technology has made children less creative than before? Someone may agree on this issue, due to the tendency that people nowadays are becoming more and more “lazy” than before; While from my perspective, on the contrary, technology assists the development of creative ability of children, rather than diminishing it.

It is tempting to assert that, with the high-level of technology, people especially children are more likely to be lazier than before. With the emergence of cars, which substitute with bikes, people could get their destination without even moving their legs; Similarly, with the calculators’ coming, people’s ability to calculate drops dramatically. Put it simply to say, we modern people, including children, are lazier than before, when technology hasn’t reached this high level. It is true that with the help of technology, we don’t even need to move a lot compared with before, and the new technology becomes the extension of our organisms. But, does our mind follow the same way? I don’t think so.

Technology itself contains no bias, and the main point lies in who uses it, and how to use it. When we take advantage of technology properly and efficiently, technology could help the development of children’s creative ability, rather than being detrimental to it. As we all know, with the widespread of computer using, almost everybody could get access to Internet, which could furnish our mind with abundant of material and information, and children could take use of these available materials to help them. It is more faster than before when there hasn’t been computer yet to obtain these materials needed. With the assistance of Internet, children could be easier to implement their creative thinking into reality.

Besides, with the advanced technology, magic stories could be adapted and showed directly in the form of films or pictures in front of people’s eyes. No one could deny the fact that the age of picture reading has already come. Children have more chance to go to cinema and watch 3D movies, such as Avanda, and Harry Potter. Through watching them, children have more direct impression about magic or mythical stories, which will in turn enhance children’s imagination and creative ability. Even me, an elder adult, could be inspired after watching this kind of movies, let alone children.

All in all, although it is tempting to assert that technology may to some extent diminish children’s ability to be creative, the advantages technology brings about outweigh the defects it brings. With the help of technology, children could have more access to useful materials and information that are needed for enhancing creative ability, and more magic or mythical movies available nowadays so children get more opportunities to observe directly these things, which could also broaden children’s creative thinking.

3 ~" h8 m+ U1 B  lDo you agree or disagree with the following statement? Students are more influenced from their teacher rather than their friends.

As to the issue that whether children are influenced more by their teachers or by their friends, different person hold different positions. Someone may assert that because of the fact that students spend much more time with friends, it is quite common to be influenced by friends more; while others agree with the opposite statement. Personally speaking, I hold that although friends may influence children to some extent, teachers could affect students on both the aspects of study and the aspects of form of personalities and characters.

Teachers, set examples for their students, could therefore influence students’ major choices. It is common that because students sometimes are not aware of personal interests clearly, teachers at this time play the role of guiders, who lead them to the right ways. Take one of my teachers in high school for example. I love learning Chinese just because this teacher. She is knowledgeable, and considerate, and we all enjoy listening to her classes so I did well in my exams in Chinese. Through this kind of self-confidence building, I chose my major in university as Chinese Literature. Due to my Chinese teacher’s role, I become interested in Chinese, and hence, take Chinese as my major.

Evidence that students’ personalities and characters could be also affected by teachers could also strengthen my position. As I mentioned before, students would take teachers as example, not only in the aspect of study, but also in the aspect of personal behavior and thought. I admire my college professor, Mr. Xia, just because he is a person with responsibility, and also optimistic. His personalities are so good that I was inspired to learn from him. He is very considerate to students, no matter their study or their life, besides, he is very optimistic about life. Without decent salary, he could also make jokes and smile a lot, facing life optimistically and seeing the bright side of everything. I remember at the time when I was confused about my future, I talked to him and he listened patiently and gave me his advice. That was really nice, which I will never forget. Consequently, I would like to imitate his way of life, being optimistic and smile to life.

However, it is true that the effects teachers bring to students outweigh that friends bring, nobody could deny the fact that friends also play an important role in students’ development. We spend a lot of time with our friends, listening to what they think and exchanging our mind, which is a crucial way to communicate with each other. Through this way, students may also be influenced by friends’ thinking. Although not as essential as teachers do, it’s imperative.

All in all, through analyzing evidences mentioned above, I could draw safely that it is teacher that influenced students more, both their study and their personalities and characters. Although the power friends assert on students also exists, from my perspective, the affects teacher has on students come more than that friend does. * Z% |, v% s1 f4 n

Do you agree with the following statement? In order to achieve happiness of yourself, you have to try to make other people happy.
# `$ P! u) o) O8 x$ N
综合: TPO18

Nowadays modern people are faced with much pressures than before, so it becomes a hot topic concerning how to achieve happiness. I agree mostly with the statement that by making others happy, people could achieve happiness of themselves, just as the saying goes, “there are aroma left on hands after giving others roses.”While it is too hasty to assert that people have to make others happy in order to pursue their own happiness. In fact, there are many other methods to achieve happiness.

Through helping others, people could achieve a sense of accomplishment, which will lead to happiness. This assertion could be support well by the example of charity. It is known that charity is a good action for people to help those who need help, and there are more and more people who are willing to do charity in the society. Of course, there are many explanations for this phenomenon, while I highly agree that due to the increasing pressure people confront, people could achieve happiness by doing this, helping others and making them happy. This is an intrinsic need for almost everybody, and through the laugh on people’s face, those who have helped them also feel the same way.

Besides, people are living in communities, which are formed by many individuals. It is natural and normal for every individual to feel the same way the whole community feels. In another word, once others in this community feel happy, they will also feel the same. So trying to make others laugh and feel pleasure is a motive for almost everyone, during which they could inundate themselves into this happy atmosphere, feel happy with others. As an old Chinese saying goes, “Individual’s happiness is less than all the people’s happiness.”
Take myself as an example. I will always feel depressed as long as one of my friends feel sad for some reason. This kind of emotion is contagious to others around her, so I would try my best to comfort her and make her happy. After she feels better, I could eventually feel happy too.

However, it is too hasty to say that we have to make others happy in order to pursuing our own happiness. It is clear that making others happy is not the only way for our own happiness, and of course there are other ways to achieve happiness and pleasure, such as reading, watching movies, listening music and so forth, all of which could be done by ourselves. As long as we have our own hobbies and interesting points, we could pursue our own happiness by ourselves, without relying on others. For instance, when I come cross difficulties that make me feel bad, I would choose to stop thinking about this issue and do other things, like watching my favorite dramas, such as Friends, comedy dramas that could make me laugh. After watching it, I feel refreshed again and of course, happy again!

All in all, I will not deny the effects making others happy brings to us, and I agree mostly that by helping others and make others forget their sad experience and so forth, we ourselves could also achieve happiness in the process. While I want also to remind every individual that this is not the only way to achieve happiness, and there are many other ways to feel glad without relying on others.

TPO18
In the reading passage, the author provides three solutions for addressing the decline of Torreya. In the lecture, the professor discusses on the same topic, however, she challenges the statements in the passage and confirms that none of the solution is satisfied solution to the problem, which is contradict with the statement in the reading by giving three specific reasons to support her opinion.

Initially, reestablishing Torreya in the same location would not be successful where it thrived for a long period, because the microclimate of the northern part of Florida would be affected significantly by the large weather conditions there. Due to the global warming's emergence, the overall temperature become higher than before; besides, the wet lands are also drained, so the conditions of the location where Torreya thrived changed and therefore no longer suitable for the growth of Torreya. This statement is incompatible with that in the reading passage.

Besides, in the reading, the author suggests moving Torreya to an entirely different location, while in the lecture, the professor disputes this statement by giving example of another kind of tree. This kind of tree is migrated to the north, but it spreads so quickly that it kills other plants and trees in that areas, which are already in danger of being extinct. So the ecosystem of the location that Torreya would be migrated to is facing threat.

Finally, contrary to the third option in the passage, the professor disputes the possibility of preserving Toeerya in research centers. She confirms that Torreya in research centers could not resist diseases, because Torreya need to preserve large and genetic diversity population in order to resist diseases. Without large and diversity of population in research centers, they would fail to survive after all.
All in all, the statements in the reading is disputed by the lecture and the professor confirms that the three solutions are not satisfactory at all.

) j) M% u; ^$ o% Z( v* P5 rDo you agree or disagree with the following statement? Movies and televisions should always show audience good people being rewarded and bad people being punished.
* B2 C, r7 w. Y( W5 j7 H

Nowadays with the rapid development of society, it becomes a hot topic concerning whether movies and televisions should show audience good people being rewarded while bad ones being punished. Someone may agree with the statement due to the moral effects it may bring, while from my perspective, although true to some extent, it is too hasty to assert that movies and televisions should always do so.

It is tempting to say that it would be good to the whole society as well as every individual if movies and televisions they watch show good people are rewarded and bad ones are punished, which is beneficial for the whole society’s construction. As we all know, the movies and televisions play important roles in the society’s good because of the fact that they are so widespread that almost everybody could get in touch with them. So what they broadcast is very crucial, which would affect the economic development of society as well as people’ mind. If people could get to know positive moral values in movies and televisions, it would be effective in making people understand what is right and what is wrong. In others word, broadcasting these ideal moral values is imperative for the whole society as well as for the people in it.

However, it is too hasty to assert that this kind of positive moral values is always been showed in movies and televisions, due to the complication of real life and the revelation of truth. First, as we all know, the real life is not as simple as the statement in the title—good people get rewarded and bad people get punished, while contrary to the statement is the complication of real life. Evidence could be derived from our common sense. For instance, it is a good hope that kind people would lead a happy life, however, it is not always this case. Leifeng, one of the famous good people in China, dies at a young age, without enjoying his beautiful life. On the other side, will bad ones always get punished? The answer is no. We know many bad persons are still out of control and even having wonderful life. It is unfair, however, this is the complication of real life and movies and televisions should show the real life rather than avoiding the passive side of life.

Besides, movies and televisions could be seen as medias, whose task is to reveal the truth in the society. As I mentioned above, the real life is complicated, so does the truth. It is difficult to imagine what the consequence would be if movies and televisions always show good people get rewarded and bad ones get punished. People would be too innocent to deal with the coming complicated world they are going to face, which are, of course, detrimental for the future development of individuals.

All in all, from the discussion above, I could draw safely the conclusion that although it is indispensible for the movies and televisions to show the positive moral values, such as good people get rewarded while bad ones get punished, the statement has some defects at the same time. Due to the complication of real life and the task for movies and televisions which is revealing the truth of society, movies and televisions should also show other side of society, more comprehensive exhibition of the truth society.
