An effective leader in politics is high in position, holding with the power of inflencing people and ,ostly importantly, the leader should make great contributions to the society. Yet, there is no need for the official leader to follow the highest morals, as the highest ethics are nothing but the point of view of certain groups. Nevetheless, the basic ethics standard which are well recognized
by the public should be taken as the guidance for the leaders to behave, even if they are effective and dedicate to better the society as a whole in aspects like economy and environment.

To begin with, let’s analyze what the highest ethics and morals mean. People in the society hold different believes, values, attitudes and thus divers criteria of what are the highest morality. It is discernable that, however, groups in society do not follow the same highest morals. And if the offcial leaders believe in one set of highest ethical standards but neglect others, they commit the biased politics and cannot truly serve all people as well as their interests. Therefore, as the politcal rulers, they should only follow the basic principles that all the people in society agree with.

As for the leaders, even if they may be well recognized and commended for their feat in aspects like economy, they cannot considered effective, for they fail to observe the basic rules that beld by the public. Bill Clinton, who is the former president of the United States, did a great job in economy. Amercian has witnessed its economy continuously to grow for nearly 10 years, the unemployment rate was low, and the stock market was fair. And Clinton also did a good job in protecting the environment. It is till now that he persists the Clinton Climate Initiative. Yet, his affair with Lewinski who used to be an intern at that time made people strongly disdained him, because he vilated the most basic principles. In this regard, Bill Clinton cannot be respected as an effective leader.

An effective leader should make great contributions to the society, while play under the guidance of rudimentray ethics. Take Abraham Lincoln as an example. He was and continued to be regarded as the most successful president in the hstory of United States. Slavery at that time still extanded, which against the majority of people’s wishes, because slavery as a system ran against the equity of all men in the world and violated human rights, breaking the morals. Lincoln proposed and led the Civil War for the sake of emanicipating black slaves and he succeed. This is an instance shows that only a political leader follows the basic moral standards of people and make great contributions to the community or nation can he/she be regarded as an effective leader.

In conclusion, an effective leader may not and should not follow the highest ethics which are considered as the special interests of certain group of people. Efficacious leaders should both observe the essential rules and make dedications to all the people in the society.
